Strange problem with Clark TK60G2
 

Hi all,

I am working on my Abrams tank and got a TK60G2 from clark.
After connecting everything i was not able to get the second motor running.
Then i tested as good as i could and was shure that the board has a failure.
I discussed that with Clark and he send me a new one while i sent mine back.

Now i got the new one and have the same problem!

I am already in contact with Clark again but i thought it would be good to ask here, maybe somebody can help.

First, i have a DKLM metal chassis with a differential gearbox.

I connect:
Power to CN1
Jumper on SW
Motor 1 (Drive) to CN6
Motor 2 (Steer) to CN7
Loudspeaker to CN5
Volume adjust to CN4
Recoil and Elevation Servo to J2 and J4
Turret Motor and Coaxial LED to CN9
Tail Light to L4
Gun Flash to J3

The Channels 1 to 8 from the Receiver are connected to CH1 to CH8

The mixer mode is set to 2 (According to Clark this is correct when using a differential gearbox).

When i switch on the power everything is working, from firing the gun, recoil, turret rotation and gun elevation, i can switch the light on and the sound is running.

When giving signal to Channel 1 the tank is moving forward and backward so channel 1 and output for drive motor is working fine.
When giving signal to Channel 2 nothing happens. The steering motor on CN7 gets no output.

If i swap the motors the steering motor works on channel 1 so both motors including the cables are fine.
If i swap channels 1 and 2 from the receiver (1 to 2 and 2 to 1) its the same behaviour, only that channel 2 on transmitter works and channel 1 does nothing.
So the receiver outputs and cables are okay. If i connect servos directly to the receiver all channels are working.

So for me it looks like channel 2 input on the board is not responding.

If i try any of the other mixer modes the tank does nothing. Probably because throttle is always on channel 2 in other mixer modes and channel 2 does nothing.

I have no idea what causes this... i still would tend to a board failure, hardware or software, but then i wouldnt be the only one who has this failure !?

I got no reply from Clark yet... so, does anyone have an idea ?

Hopefully you get what i mean, because english is not my native language :)

Okay, now its working... i really tried everything but Clark had finally the right idea!
There is a function to switch gears for some tanks, when powering on the board is set to neutral gear.
And while in neutral the throttle is not working.
In the special case with a differential gearbox the throttle switches to a different channel so the throttle works but not the steering.
So it was just a configuration issue, which is very well hidden in the guide.

good to see you solved it . Was chatting with Clark now tonight about your issue. Just wanted to make sure about a few things before I jumped in here .
He also updated a few spots in the info on his page .

Its my first tank and the last r/c model i built, that was back in the 80ies !
Some info is not easy to put together, like the neutral gear thing. And some are missing, i did not find a diagram about the Board connector for the Programmer, its only visiblöe on one of the photos, so i made it like there and it worked.
But could be that overlooked it.

One question i had was about the tail lights... they only light up when GBS is enabled ?
I thought they would be parallel to the front lights, but for that i have to connect them to the same connector as the front lights, is that correct ?
And then without a resistor in line ?

My tank is technically almost done... but i did nothing yet with the outer hull or turret. No decals, no paint, nothing...
But i will show some video next week.

I can't say for sure about the TK60, but when I put the TK22 in the Bulldog I had to add a resistor to the tail lights. 200 ohm, if I remember correctly. You can get them from burnt out RX-18 units if nothing else.

Those Clark boards sound so good. They have come a long way since my TK22
