Where to find Reference material
 

Im finally getting into building model tanks now that i have the tools and assistance to accompany my stuborn ideas, but im completly dead in the water! I cannot find and refrence files with measurements to start C.A.D. modeling (yes yes i know they dont have to be exact but like i said im stuborn). The files im looking for are for the king tiger preferably the Porsche turret but i can live with a henschel.

P.S. im going 1/6th scale so any other advice is greatly appreciated.

I Don't know if this will help but when I am doing a build and I want detailed information I go to a couple of Blueprint sites,
One is free the other makes a small charge but does give more detail.

I'm doing a 1/6 Hetzer and it really is a great scale, but you're going to find some challenges along the way. For example, with my Hetzer I ended up completely replacing the drive system with better motors and chain drive. What kind of features are you planning for the King Tiger? I mean, besides the usual rotation and elevation and what-not. Are you going to put in a paintball cannon? Maybe a smoke and flash feature? Do you want barrel recoil? LED flash in the machine gun? What about sound? Smoke? Gotten that far in the planning yet?

My plan is by the end of my 4 years of engineering ill encorporate as much as i can from my classes (im wanting to make it detailed as possible). So im designing eveeything in a cad program so that i can calculate stresses and all that stuff so i can lick the right motors. my main features i want to an opening closing breach and recoil (if possible kinda like the armortek flak 88), tops will swap with jagdtiger upper, and if i can learn how i would like to design and build a maybach engine (like the artimus v12), possibly a hydraulic system for rotation elevation, but untill i build all that stuff im sticking with electric motors, smoke system, recoil and flash (i might have found a better way for flash and instead use a secondary smoke machine and a solenoid valve to puff when fired out the barrel). Im sure theres some other stuff ill do along the way but that is the main stuff

Just so you know, the Jagdtiger, while built on what was basically a King Tiger chassis, was actually slightly longer than a King Tiger. I think they stretched the KT chassis a lot like you would stretch a car to make a limo.

As for motors, you might want to look at the motors I put in my Hetzer. They're made for electric bikes and scooters, and have plenty of power and torque. I actually had to set end points to slow it down a bit as it was way faster than scale speed.

1/35 kits are great references for measurements

Very true, 1/35 kits are great references, and 1/48 kits are more easily converted to 1/6, since 6 goes into 48 (the redneck in me is just screamin', "gozinta!") :) I guess I should say that 48 is divisible by 6.

And if any of our math gurus want to help me out, if a 1/6 scale guy is looking at a 1/48 scale model, to him it would be a 1/8 scale model, Correctamundo? So a 1/48 scale model can be converted simply by multiplying by 8, right? If the 1/48 model is 10 inches long, the 1/6 scale model will be 80 inches long?

Sorry if any of that is interpreted as hijackin', but I think conversions are a valuable source of reference material, wouldn't ya say?

Ya i knew the kt and the jt wernt exactly the same i figured i would slightly stretch it so it was halfway but ill see im still looking a measurements to see if my ocd will allow it
