Does anyone make a Stuart or Lee tank? If not could you fabricate one from tother kits?

There's a Stuart on Shapeways. Not sure how much work to rc it.

Vandra makes a Lee conversion kit.

You're right but I haven't seen the details on it. He has it in both a static version and then for extra $$$ an RC'able suspension but forget how much that is.

Well, the 1/16th Scale M3 Stuart available from Shapeways appears to be a scaled down version of the popular 1/6 scale model out there....even replicating some of its minor flaws and inaccuracies (very fixable). This later type M3 Stuart was used extensively by the US; but, I have to say that I would rather have a model of the earlier M3 used by the US and the British in North Africa - if I could choose....

Anyway, it appears to get the one on Shapeways you would also shell out $400.00 for the parts they have available - and not all are. And, then convert those bits to an RC model. That is a bit rich for my liking.

I noted one or two 1/16th Lee bits on Shapeways as well (???) Not enough for me, but maybe someone is in the process of making one?????

I very much like and use Shapeways for add-on and detail parts; but, larger parts seem to be VERY expensive for them to manufacture - at this time.

I have to say that I am sort of hoping that Trumpeter would make one or two US/Common Wealth tanks in 1/16th scale to offset there German kit line......

I was working with the gentleman on shapeways to produce the rc suspesnion and split open hull. We cooperated on the trailing idler wheel and blow ups on the bogies and volute spring design. We were making good progress and i have one of his early bogie prototypes on my bench still. They will work when completed but he dissappeared and hasnnot returned my messages for quite a while now. I still have hope as I was ready to drop the cash on the printed tank, and it will be about 6-800 when ready to print.

M3 Lee. A gentleman in Hungary made a body kit for a little while a few years ago, designed to fit on a sherman henglong chassis. I built it up and was in the process of backdating the bogies when i got distracted and lost interest. Someone offered to buy it and when ai finally agreed, his car blew up and he had to replace it. Im willing to let it go now if someone wants to just pay my actual cash out of pocket that i am into it for. i made flat pad tracks for it amd i got a bunch of extra 3d parts as well.

I scratchbuilt a Stuart a few years ago. I used Sherman bogies/track which wasn’t accurate but made her a reliable fun battler..

I think the M3A1 Stuart would be a better model of interest and easily enough converted to an M5....and more.
I do have to admit that I VERY much like the one above with the Sherman Bogies......given the US's use of "Economy of Parts" philosophy during WWII I can see them making such an animal........

Yep...as I said she was built to run...I’ve seen so many scratchbuilds that are all show and no go, although they look the part, don’t actually move, or are disabled because a one-off part has broken or even just too fragile and fall apart when they’re driven...at least with the factory parts she was sturdy and repairable...

Absolutely, rather be off historically and be able to battle all weekend than have a motorized model that doesn't cut it.

I like all of the paths a guy can follow to enjoy this hobby ---- R/C, static, 3D, plastic, resin, metal ---- you name it ---- and the most fun part of it for me is scratch building. I have purchased R/C full function tanks and have a bunch of scratch built and modified AFVs. I like them all. They are all my favorites. However, the Tank series that has always been my #1 favorite is the Stuart (the Walker and the Chaffee follow closely). I had two of the Verlinden static resin models and wanted to R/C one of them but that didn't happen. However, before I built it as a static shelf showoff, I made a scale drawing of all of the parts so that I would have paper patterns which I could use to cut styrene parts.

Here's the static Verlinden Model, M3/M3A1 with a few different turret designs, and a quick disconnect trailer rig.
I also scratch built an R/C M5 with a covenrsion top works to make it an M8. I'll post some photos of those later . I didn't build an M3A3.

I want to build one because its the only tank I ever commanded!
I had a good time that weekend a long time ago.

Here's my R/C M5. The M16 track took a week to make out of Tamiya Sherman T80 track, and I used the early Tamiya Sherman motors/tranny and r/c gear, which were a tight fit, and scratch built the body parts. Most of the suspension parts are resin.

This is the M8 upper hull on the M5 lower hull.

Man Rex. You went to town. I remember one of those, but you make a few...all first class!

Awesome as always Rex. I hope to do that 3d one some day. Nothing quite stacks up like a scratch build though.

with a little bit of work the Vandra Model version of the M3 Lee can be made to look acceptable and also rc function. It is designed to fit on a HL M4 Sherman. I think Vandra Model still make it. They are based in Hungary.
