considering Mato M10

Looking for opinions. I've searched the forum and found a variety of posts, (typically regarding older Mato Shermans). Suspension assembly seems to be an issue. How easily can it be disassembled for paint? Just thinking......... Another thought would be to build an M36B1 with Mato turret on HL chassis with TK22. Just looking to discuss. Thanks.

MAto all metal tanks gear boxes are hit and miss on quality. The gears on all mine wobbled side to side off axis while spinning I tried shimming and breaking back in etc etc. Reallly don't like them. They are also geared low. I think it was 69:1 ratio. But they do keep crawling well on that last hit in IR battle. The chasis are prone to stripping out the gear box mount screws if you take them in and out a few times. The wheels are cast metal rolling directly on a cast metal axel. Terrible design. They gaul up and seized . They are very difficult to get apart to service the frozen up wheel. Keep them well lubed. I had high hopes for the mato but wont buy them any more. I am left with one Sherman built on a mato metal chassis and eventually when the wheels all freeze up again I will can it and move the build over to a taigen.
Sorry, I think they make high priced junk for their drive trains.

O can see what you mean by the quality. I am going to see if something can be done about where the gearboxes mount. All that material and they use a 1/4 of it.

Regqrding the suspension, Mato has added at least bushings, I can't tell if they're bearings until I tear her down for paint.

Just got a shiny new M36 delivered by FedEx. It also has bushings installed.

The recoiling ejecting breech is a thing of beauty.

Oh, I know. That's what inspired me to get the M36.

Cool, though Dr Phibes has set the bar quite high

Indeed. For the time being, I'm going to have to content myself with simply painting it. I just don't have time do that kind if work right now.

Does the mato metal sherman turrets fit the henglong size turret hole or is it bigger or does it fit a taigen hull?

Imex-Erik 02-13-2018 06:16 AM

Just for reference I'm getting approximately 97.5mm for the upper hull ring hole and the turret itself at about 96mm. The gear ring centers it all. Hope this helps!
