My Tamiya M4E8 Project

I have almost finished my E8. It is pretty much done except it needs a trip to the paint booth when Spring finally arrives. It began life as a standard Tamiya 105mm kit. I added the E8 additions care of a Nick Agular kit. Thanks to a VERY generous member here, I also added the DT idler kit, gearbox plate and frame brace. I also installed bearings in the roadwheels and metal tracks. The job of installing recoil is not for the faint of heart. I re-purposed an old Tamiya Tiger recoil assembly by mounting it on a Pershing recoil bracket. The elevation motor has a DT metal arm and Nick's aluminum 76mm barrel. Note I had to section the elevation bracket for clearance and fabricate the rotation using HL parts. Also note the Woodford Reserve to calm the nerves! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/imag...lies/smile.gif I know the rivet counters will find issues, but I am happy with the outcome and frankly I lack the skill and patience to get the fine details right. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...7c18825fdc.jpg

Do you think the Website folks will ever allow simple posting of pictures? This is ridiculous.

Excellent job! Nice to see a Korean one as well. I've founf the easiest way to post pictures is use Tapatalk on rctankwarfare and then copy the IMG links over. The native uploader on here refuses to work for me.

Nice work! I went the same way using the HL rotation unit.

Wow you used henglong rotation. Thats some work to convert. I never thought of doing that on a tamiya hull. I did it on my nick jumbo which was made for the tamiya rotation but i wanted to try the hl unit conversion. Sadly, i think it would have worked better if i had used the tamiya system.
nicks turret works great with the stock tamiya rotatin system. For the e8 you just need to install the cross bracket in the turret and then cut it in the middle to make room for the recoil to depress,.
im curios why you did all the work to use the HL system. Do you like it better or was it a matter of parts on hand or something else?

Looks great and fun with all the modifications! I have one in progress but using the opposite Red Devils scheme... with the burnt orange front glacis painted. https://www.how-amps.org/89th-tank-b...ces-red-devils It's about time to see some Korean Shermans built!

(I'm REALLY surprised someone here isn't having a coronary over the gun travel lock being used)

I used an OLD school Tamiya upper hull which did not have the bosses for the Tamiya rotation unit. I have found the HL unit to be more robust anyway and cheaper, so if I had to bash something together, might as well go that route. I am finishing my Nick's Jumbo as well and will use the Tamiya unit on it, but I am currently fighting on getting the recoil unit to fit...There is not much room in the mantlet area to allow proper elevation with the recoil bracket installed.

Fitting that damn tamiya recoil in a sherman turret was one of the two reasons i dont use them. The other being the slow back recoil and they fall apart occasionally too. Building a servo bracket system was much easier for me to design and build. And now that that guy makes a servo activator from a tamiya board, its possible to use tamiya electronics if desired.
i used a pershing or tiger bracket on my ez8 that was all tamiya and still had pull the recoil back furter to allow depression for tbe elevation.

do you have a link to the servo recoil board?
