So after having a chance to play with it a bit, I have to say this thing is a real little beast. The drive train is very smooth. It runs so well that if you release the stick from full speed it will coast for at least it's own length. I need to add spatter shields and a bit of grease, but the ball bearing gearboxes aren't too bad for noise level, and the engine sounds easily drown out any gear whine. The metal lower is quite stout and the individual roadwheels travel smoothly up and down. All together the suspension works great, and the tracks seem of high quality as well. As for the upper hull, it seems a bit on the flimsy side and I worry about longevity with the metal turret. If there were a plastic turret option I think I'd go for it. I know everybody loves metal, but you can't tell the difference once it's properly painted, and the reduction in stress on the upper is well worth it for me. I've already converted a couple of my tigers back to plastic turrets and I'm glad I did.
I can't say I'm crazy about the clear machine gun barrels, but it's a simple project to fix, and those are the kinds of mods that can be fun. I'll have to do more research and see what I can come up with for an MG upgrade, at least to the bow gun. These little bits were in the accessory pack, any ideas where they go? I couldn't find reference to anything similar in the instructions. The hooks are metal and the other two pieces are green plastic, so I imagine they go on the deck somewhere, or maybe the turret? Attachment 2263981 Those metal hooks are used to clip the tow cables to the top rear of the hull. |
Thanks, guys, I see how it works now. One more reason to blacken the tow cables. I heard about a trick with eggs, does anyone know how to do that?
|
Yea confirmed used on the back of the tank to hold tow cables. Also I'll look into more plastic turrets but the market keeps asking for metal and more metal. I know it is hard to look at sometimes but what is online for requests and what actually sells are vastly different and we have to work on what will actually be in demand versus what will actually sell. We have had more than a few products like this with the Jagdtiger being the biggest example. It was the most highly requested item I had seen and got online, but yet sales did not reflect that at all. It is a hard balancing game :(

Also, I hear there is some juicy news coming in the next day or two :)

Baring something unforeseen, there will be a small surprise on 09 May in Sevastopol. I will post photos after the event and if I'm lucky I might have some additional photos to post at that time. Keep your fingers crossed for my security clearance being approved by 'them'.

if it’s about the Waltersons T-72 you better hurry because it’s being posted all over the Facebook tank groups as we speak 😀 |
I was at their website and i thought it said the turret only has 180 degrees of rotation? That can't be right, can it? I've been waiting for a t-72 for a long time, but what I really want is a better option for the T-55. An RTR T-55 would make me a happy camper.

The spec sheet says 340 for the Standard and Enthusiast models. The Extreme says 360. Those are from the DKLM RC picture posts.

That's good to know. Just so you guys know I'm not crazy, this is what I saw
Radio Controlled toys & hobbies - Enthusiasm beyond compare - Waltersons Scroll down just a bit to specs and it says 180 degrees, but it also says IR range is only 3 meters, so I bet it's the 1/72 or 1/24. Sorry for any confusion. |
If you scroll down to the pictures on that link you posted, the tank fits in the palm of the guy's hand. That particular model looks to be 1/72 scale.
|
That is the product page for the 1/72nd. The official pics and stuff from Walterson's will be released next week though the show is going on right now in Beijing where it is being announced. Lots of neat stuff on it I can finally talk about.

Looks very nice the IS-2. Been hovering over the buy it now button over at taigen for days now, problem is the leopard 2a6 is so tempting as well. i Do not have any tank in my harem that is not of the ww2 variant. And the leopard is so very tempting. I had just decided to finish off my panther g with parts when i saw this and dropped 400 so i cannot in good conscience buy both and let my new child starve once again.
i was in iraq, my son was in iraq, my grandson will not be in iraq, this i pledge. "Common Dirk, put that tutu on, we dont want to miss ballet class, and stop touching my tanks. Those are for sissies not for the next casanova like you boy!" |
New JS2 owner
Greetings.. Received my JS2 yesterday. Mostly favorable purchase. I find the weathering acceptable. The white stripping however could be toned down a bit. Maybe aged with a yellower shade of white. Applied thinner. Let some green bleed through. LOTS of bubbles in the white paint. Was somewhat surprised the hull mounted shovel tool was sprayed green and with cast iron texture. Lack of attention to detail from the finisher. Especially considering this is an EXPENSIVE model. Noticed the Torro and most other JS2's sold out of the USA, namely Russia, did not get the shovel sprayed turret green. The white stripping was less pock marked as well.
The tank does run spectacular. Smooth and responsive. The proportional smoker is the best Ive ever used. The effect is surprisingly good. Build quality so far is very good. The factory needs better painters however for a $600 + dollar model. (recruit some Taigen Tiger painters). If i could do it all over again, Id wait until they improve the finish. Too many flaws now. |
