3D printed projects
Haven’t posted for a while, so here’s a couple of projects that I’ve done with my printer..https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...8f088c145.jpeghttps://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...872ea0ec7.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...6bb0b8bf8.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...0a7c6570e.jpeg |
Thought you'd gone rather quiet of late
|
Beautiful work, did you do the designs in a CAD program? What type of printer are you using? The finish looks very nice!

Yep been using fusion 360, cura and an ender 3pro...couldn’t have got started without martins help...👍 |
What kind of towed gun is that?
I've been looking at doing a USA WW2 Pack 75. |
It’s a 105mm howitzer...I had a lot of spare HL Sherman barrels left over from conversions so thought it would be a good way of using them up... |
Nice! Is the gun carriage 3d printed? I can see that the wheels are.
|
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...087978166.jpeg Yep it’s all printed apart from the barrel and the top tube thingy... |
I measured up a 75mm pack howitzer at a show last year Greg, I can send along the pictures and video if you want to have a bash..
|
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...926b8a145.jpeg I’ve started on a 57mm (thanks to a 1/35 kit supplied by Martin...lol) |
Oh yes please!
|
How are you coming along with the 3"?
|
Lol...not started that one yet...school holidays...I’ll have to get on it when the boys are out of my hair... |
I'm off all next week, so I'm hoping to make a savage inroad into the Brockway pontoon carrier now that the White 666 is about finished.
After that's out of the way with, we'll have to talk about divying up the M19... |
It looks like it has a bunch of fun challenges for my CAD skill...

Sounds like a plan 👍 |
Beautiful work!
Are the wheels "hard" or did you try any of the rubber type filaments? |
They’re hard at the minute, I need to look into what’s involved print the flexible filament... |
Properly flexible filaments are hard to do with the bowden printers, as you are essentially trying to push a wet noodle down a drinking straw and you struggle to get enough force at the hot end to drive the material thru and flow properly.
I have a direct drive printer which I've set up specifically to use TPU - that gets around the feed problem, but the other down side is the print speed is still low. The realy soft (80 shore hardness) material I started with could only print at around 15mm/second, which translates to a single tyre for a CCKW taking 8 hours. I've since moved on to another brand, which is harder at 85 Shore but that allowed me to crank the speed up to 25mm/sec and get that tyre done in around 5 hours. Its also a about a quarter of the cost of the really soft material as well. |
Hello,
your creatures are fantastic ! In which scale are they ? Cheers Balázs |
They’re all 1/16 :) |
I’ve also been playing with doing an early 75mm Sherman mantlet with a 3mm IR bulb where the mg should be...still need to test what sort of range it’s giving me....https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...16077d7ee.jpeg |
Based on testing with DBC's back in the day, you should expect 60-70ft. The bigger question is how long will the 3mm LED last - Phil did a lot of experimentation with the limiting resistor on the DBC to stretch the LED that far without blowing it on a regular basis. How long the LED lasts with another board, which assumes a 5mm LED with a higher tolerance for current spikes, is going to be an interesting question...

Nice Mantlet!!!
