Panzer II – fundament of the German Panzerwaffe
A new model kit to present...
what do you think about this? https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...db1a42e1d6.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...34543b32a2.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...ddfaf39bd6.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...acbe3f540c.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...8d7a6f0188.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...af625c1bae.jpg Because the weather was fine my Panzer II Ausf C made his first moves ;). For the one who is interested in this kit, it is available here: Panzer 2 Cheers, Freddy |
Very cool

Wow, Nice Panzer II C!!! Will there be an F model?

So here's the question to everybody: Will there be more interest for an F type model kit of the Panzer II? |
That looks great. Love the panzer II
|
Beautiful model - excellent!

Just read the instructions, it's very well engineered with working metal sheet suspension available in 3 different stiffnesses. Track tensioner, Metal custom gearbox. Turret rotation gear ring.
Detail parts are 3d printed. The price is good I am tempted. |
I would like an F Model PZ II for sure!!!
|
Very nice to see! Now if only someone would consider 1/10 scale.

After applying the standard grey color „Wehrmachtsgrau“ the tank got markings of the platoon leader of the 3rd platoon in the 4th company of the 35th tank regiment, that was incorporated in the 4th tank division, fighting with Heeresgruppe B in the western campaign France, May 1940.

Very well done. All around a great looking Panzer II

It really looks great!! So much so, I've ordered and rec'd the kit, though the shipper apparently couldn't live with out some of the parts so Christian is sending more over....which should get here sometime this year....
So I'm curious what choice of gearbox? the one that Christian has built? or something else? And the inner workings of the turret? can you give a glimpse of what lies within your build?? Last one: How did you get the anti-slip texture on the fenders?? Mine is just plain styrene sheet. thanks, Jerry |
Jerry, the kit is designed for using Chris' gear boxes; the HL or Mato gear boxes are to large for the available space.
The turret is empty, i.e. no servos for recoil or elevation, only LED's are used, but you can try to modify but it's very cramped inside. For the fender texture I've applied a thin styrene sheet: https://www.architekturbedarf.de/mod...2-fach-p_30-mm Best regards, Freddy |
Thank you Freddy,
I have some left over rc35.com gearboxes for a 38T, and a spare Tamiya one also that I'd used on the Panda 38T so I hope to be able to use either. The Tamiya is really quiet, but not too robust... I'll have to duplicate the rc35.com Luchs turret innards then, I guess, though I don't know where to get the solenoid they used https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...e3517a7118.jpg As for the anti skid plate, thanks for the link, unfortunately they don't ship to the states......drat!! Mayhap I'll try and 3D print something in ABS since I haven't tried that filament as yet.... Thanks again, Jerry |
Lotuswins, Plastruct has what you need. Here is the link.

I bought some of that diamond plate for the M35 tank all their project and it's some really good stuff.
|
Thanks Maus45 and Crius, I found some on line with that P/N....should be here soon!!
I also found a solenoid, after using 'electro magnet' instead of solenoid in the search engine. Amazon apparently has many listed (who knew?). BTW, the one 35rc.com uses is a 20x11x12mm sized one with a 12 ohm resistance coil. If anyone is interested.... Jerry |

Did you use the 3.8mm spring steel for suspension? Do you have any hints for alternative materials, since I also cannot find anything like that ;) |

I'm in the process of ordering this kit myself but putting together the hardware has been a pain so far... I've managed to find some bevel gears on eBay but I'm just hoping they're OK dimensionally.

For taping screws Ø2.2 you can use 2-56 taping screws. I´ve choosed the 3.8mm spring steel strips because they were available in Germany, but any sheet of spring steel of this thickness would work; you have to cut it into strips. For instance: https://www.mcmaster.com/spring-temp...-steel-strips/ |
Thanks for your help! I managed to get some thin stainless sheet steel, hopefully it's springy enough.. ;)
Christian is working on a kit for me, but in the meantime I've got my motors and gears; I'm getting excited to build! Another thing I just noticed in the instructions are what look like brass inserts in the road wheels.. is that just brass tube? Would it be practical to use bearings there? |
Brass sleeves will suffice

Did you get the assembly manual from Chris? Only for getting an idea: if the stainless steel sheets are too less flexible you may use spring wire instead. I´ve tried that at another project: |

usually brass is good enough; all my tank suspensions are plastic on plastic or brass on plastic, never used bearings for road wheels, but if you want to use the tank intensely you can rework the holes for bearings.

I´ve tried that at another project: https://youtu.be/gGlEvcZ7RVU Yes I've been going through the PDF manual online, it's fairly thorough but I only just noticed the road wheels & the brass tube weren't mentioned so I thought to ask here. You're right about the stainless, it's too hard and not springy enough. I might experiment with wire or even plastic zip-ties once I get the kit in hand. I have most of the hardware I think I'll need.. its a pain because we're still the ups and downs of Covid lockdowns over here and I can't just walk to the hobby shop >< Now for some micro LEDs ... |

I´ve tried that at another project: https://youtu.be/gGlEvcZ7RVU My only hiccup so far is the turret drive gear. None comes with this kit so I thought to use a Heng Long turret drive motor sprocket to drive the kit's turret ring. Nope, it's too large in diameter, and doesn't reach the gearbox shaft anyway (I'm using the same motor type as in your video) ...so where can I get a gear that will work here? https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...5e58c7b3f9.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...f4fe5ad357.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...63b991fdf6.png |
I´m glad you have fun with the build :)
Your process is well and the idea of using styrene for spring leaf is good (I didn´t thought about)! About the turret gear: the mounting for the gear motor, the big pinion you´ve got? That should be included in the kit. The gear motor is available here: Gear motor 6V 30rpm The pinion you can get here. pinion because the shaft of the gear motor is 3mm, you have to reduce the bore (or maybe find one originally with bore 3mm?) Here are two video of this model that may helps: |
