Walterson’s 1/24 Tank Batteries?
 

Hello everyone! Newbie here...

I just purchased a Walterson’s 1/24 Sherman. Tough to find...

One source lists the correct NiMH battery for the tank as 7.2v 800mAh. Another source shows 9.6v 800 mAh.

Does anyone know which one is correct?
What happens if I use a higher mAh?
Is the plug generic, or unique to the Walterson’s tank?

Using a higher Mah number means that the battery will last longer before you have to recharge it. The voltage is what's important, and I think I would stick with the 7.4, just to be safe. It will probably handle the 9.6, but why take a chance?

Waltersons never produced a rechargeable battery for that model. It is intended to be run off AA batteries. 6 x 1.5V batteries gives a voltage of 9V (some batteries get as high as 1.6ish versus the 1.5V here used in the equation) so you should be ok with a 6 cell NIMH battery. A 7 cell 9.6V pack is probably going to be a bit higher voltage than you need really. I would stick with the 6 cell packs as those are going to be cheaper anyways for the most part.

Thanks! I can’t post a photo of the Waltersons connector until I have 10 posts. But does anyone know if it’s a “Tamiya” or “Mini-Tamiya” or something else? It doesn’t look like anything I’m seeing on Amazon or eBay... The plug in the tank has two “male” prongs. The batteries I’m seeing all seem to have “male” connectors too. Something doesn’t seem right...

One more question...

From a performance standpoint, is there a significant difference between a NiMH rechargeable and 6 rechargeable 1.5v AAs?

That little red connector is called a JST-RCY connector and specs about it can be found here: J.S.T. Mfg. Co., Ltd.
They are a very common connector luckily. As for the differences it wont be much really. The difference is going to be packaging between those. The voltage should be the same since they are both NIMH cells.
