Kenny Kong KT tracks
 

Hi Have Kenny Kong tracks they are rather bright, anyone have an idea of the metal used . Going to try to finish off an older build , just the tracks and some light weathering to do on a Tamiya KT with late war camo

The tracks are not the usual dark colour

Want the correct primer for the tracks then some weathering to complete .

Whenever I need to darken Tank Tracks I use Gun Blue,
Be careful how you handle the stuff and Do wear rubber gloves,

HI I used gun blue or similar on the spare tracks ,one set Kenny Kong and the other Impact. Impact track metal reacted well to the blueing and i used them on my early zimmermet KT.

The Kenny Kong are above the Impact , Impact have a better colour.

I'd say just paint them. They are zinc-aluminum alloy. But KK seems to use pretty high quality metal. They last and wear well. I'd just use Tamiya surface primer or red oxide red primer and paint em gun metal.

Hmmm. You can tell me to mind my own business but that finish on your spare tracks looks alot like whatever you used caused or is causing the alloy to oxidize. It doesn't always stop with what you see either. Be careful. I'd simply paint them if you can't wait til they surface oxidize naturally.

Thanks all Will paint the tracks , much safer and the blueing never really worked .

I paint mine with metal etching spray pant from the auto parts store which is a medium green and then paint over that with weathering.
It stays fine on the inside but if you run your tank in sand or sandy soil nothing lasts very long on the outside.

What is the difference in results between the Casey gun blue and aluminium black?

I just paint mine in a rust colour self etching paint and let dry for two days. Next is flat black over the 'rust', new tanks in Germany the tracks were painted black, at least early and mid war. As the tanks is driven more and more of the black will wear off on contact areas and the rust, too,so you get shining metal, rust in the low contact areas and black where nothing touches the tracks.

I usually just paint mine black and hit them with a brown/rusty wash. After that nature takes it's course.

I got the super blue liquid. Takes like 30 seconds and is just right! Still a bit wet from the rinse in this picture.
