Sherman Muzzle break???

I am trying to find a 1/16 scal muzzle break for my Tamiya Sherman. I have a 76mm machined aluminum barrel and have not been able to find one anywhere.[:o] Hopefully somebody has some input, cause this is one of the last pieces I need before final paint.

RE: Sherman Muzzle break???

Tiff has it. but he only sell it with his t23 turret kit.
1. in history, did us army use 76mm gun on this turret? not sure about that.
2. I know even when t23 turret sherman, they took the muzzle break off becuase german will pick the 76mm gun shermn first. so they took the muzle brake off to look like regular 75mm gun sherman.
good luck. tom

When the 75mm cannon was put on the Sherman, it became a sought after target because it was much more effective against the heavy German tanks. In order to camouflage those longer guns, the half of the barrel closest to the mantle was painted like the rest of the Shermans, but the other half was painted brown on top and white on bottom, with a wavy line separating them. The idea was that the brown made the longer barrel less noticeable from the air and the wavy line on the side of the barrel (combined with the white paint) broke up the silhouette from the ground and made it more difficult to determine the length of the barrel. For whatever reason, a muzzle break was installed where the colors joined in order to further make it seem like a short barrel, but it did not work because the regular Shermans did not have muzzle breaks at all. At that point, I think they just stopped using muzzle breaks all together, at least for WWII.

I have a 75mm barrel on the way and I am going to paint it in this way, but with no muzzle breaks at all. [sm=thumbup.gif]

Furious-san

Tiff Williams, he makes a variety of turrets. Bob Morey sells a 76mm brake, and its rather nice too. He is the one that supplies Backyard Armor with the main gun rounds, and Sherman/Pershing tow hitches. I've got some of his stuff, and its really cleanly cast.

You can reach him at: [email protected]

Icecreamslick:

I think you mean the British 17 pounder. The Sherman initially came with a 75mm, and it was pitiful, thats why the British put the 17 pounder in it, and the US later stuffed the 76mm into it. That paint scheme you have is for a Commonwealth Firefly. The 76mm was later, and many didn't have a brake at all.
