Older HL's...Pull to left????

Does anyone else have problems with the NON smoking/Sound HL Tiger and Panther pulling to the left?
The tracks seem to be a little harder to pull by hand(more resistance, dont turn as freely as right side)
The gears inside seem to be all in-line and normal, cant see any obvious problems.
Also, the left drive sprocket give you problems(come loose)?
This happens on both Tiger and Panther
This has only happened on my NON s/s models......newer versions work fine.

My HL Tiger 1 did the same thing. I examined it from top to bottom and could not find anything loose or out of place even after a whole day of figuring and tinkering.........so I set the @*#! on fire in my back yard. :) Now, instead of setting on the shelf taunting me, it is a nasty little "casualty" on our 1:16 battlefield. :D

I love that tank! [sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: Older HL's...Pull to left????

I guess that one option.....maybe its the "gearing" of the gearbox?
Puzzles me,cuz both old style tanks that I own are doing same thing[:o]
I guess I will use them as spare parts tanks:eek:

RE: Older HL's...Pull to left????

My Hl does the same thing. I checked the voltage coming off of the circuit board last night and they were both the same, so I'm stumped. I guess it could be the motor but what are the chances of all our our left drive motors going out?

RE: Older HL's...Pull to left????

I am starting to think that the gearing on the left side is "FUBAR".
It seems to have a lot more resistance when you spin tracks by hand....plus the drive sprocket screw coming loose once and a while:eek:

LOL!

If I ever kill mine, I'm going to put a can of spray paint, or some co2 cannisters inside of it, and then shoot at it with my rifle from about 200 meters away. I want to see the turret blow off!

OK Guys,

This is one for the books.

I too have a HL Tiger, just completed a upgrade. I installed new metal gears and lubed the gear boxes.

I didn't have any of the internal electronics that worked. (Someones botched upgrade attempt sold on Ebay as something it wasn't, this is not a complaint just FYI) I installed a new ESC (ANT150) and started testing. Mine too has a tendency to pull to the Left both with plastic and the Metal track sets.

Its not bad just an annoyance. ;)

Bullhys,....you are only about 20 miles or so from me:D.
My pull is VERY bad to the left.....very anoying(undriveably so)[&o]
For the cost of a new s/s tank verses the s/s electroncs from MATO......better off just trashing this tank and buying a new s/s or spend $ elsewere:eek:

I know it sounds silly but you will note that like on a real Tiger the track links on both tracks are identical. This means (as with the real Tiger) one set is effectively running backwards.

Try swapping the tracks around so that the backwards facing one is on the other side.....it might help!

Test every gear are they too stiff, it may help...

jsrat121,

Try removing the track drives and swapping the gears from right to left an see if there is a change, also you may wish to have a look see at the track tension differance between the two. (one track may have 1 less link than the other)

I ran into a simular issue with my old Leopard A4 years ago.

As far as location we'll have to meet up at some point.:D I plan to join up with So Cal Tankers based in Rancho Cucamonga as soon as I can get the time.

RE: Older HL's...Pull to left????

The links are exactly the same (in number of actuall links). All gears seem to be OK, no binding at all.
S.C.A.T. is hard to get anything done with......slow on e-mail reply[&o]. Maybe we should form our own tank corp?

RE: Older HL's...Pull to left????

Can be done, however SCAT has a battle field already and in use;)

As far as the pull to the left, check the road wheels and see if some drag, their has to be a reason, something draging, try putting the tank on a 2x4 so the tracks clear and run it watch for track alignment any kind of binding. maybe the sprocket teeth are not catching the tracks properly.

RE: Older HL's...Pull to left????

Ok, I might know the answer to this question... I recently took mine apart due to thinking one of the gears were stripped. But I found that the last gear on the trans. (the one that hooks up to the drive wheel) was merley pressed-fit on.... There are no securing fastenres what-so-ever. So the gear was slipping on the shaft....and not allowing movement....Im guessing this is the problem with the HL's pullling to the left or right....the gear on either gearbox is slipping...

That would be a good guess, I know it's a pain, but you mite want to go thru the track drives again and secure those gears to the axel shaft(s)

This can be done in a number of ways..the shafts have a knurled location where the gear is suppose to ride. Clean both shaft and gear with alchol to remove any grease and apply a drop of super glue to the shaft and reinstall the gear, let set. Another way to solve the loose gear issue would be to get the metal gear upgrade and install it. The upgrade replaces all the nylon gears an bushings with metal and brass, be sure to relube the gear drives.

Hope I'm of some help..

Regards
