1/16 figures

Hey all, Where can I find some figures for my tiger? I want one for the second turret hatch and the drivers position. I found some resin figures but they are around $40 each! Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I use the 1:18 scale Ultimate Soldiers and I think that they add a great deal to the tanks. [sm=thumbup.gif] The detail is much better than I could possibly paint, too. Plus, since they are "posable", you have more freedom and a variety of positions.

They are about $5.00 each at Wal-Mart or you can find them on-line, even on Ebay.

You did a great job! [X(]

I simply do not have the patience or a steady enough hand to do the same. After all of that work, you will probably want to stick with 1:16 scale figures, as the 1:18 soldiers will not work well in mixed company. I wish I knew of more 1:16 characters, but you might try the Tamiya 1:16 that you build and paint:

You would have to cut one into a torso, but I bet you could do a proper job. [sm=thumbup.gif]

icecreamslick:

He won't have to cut the Tamiya figs, as those three come in quite a few pieces. Boots, front & rear leg halves, then front & rear torso, arms, hands, head, helmet or cap (The DAK 36310 has 3 cap options!) and some have extra detailing, like epaulettes, jacket front detailing and medals.

You just set the feet and leg-front and rear halves aside, and presto, turret optional fig. I know as I have most of 'em... Just avoid the Dragon 1/16 ones... compared to Tamiya's, they are crap - need a LOT of body-putty to fill gaps.

Thanks! which one would you reccomend as a loader? I don't think Rommel would look good hanging out of the wrong hatch! I am also seeking a decent photo on the undersides of both of the turret hatches, as well as the loading hatch in the side. Any Ideas?

Thanks in Advance,

Doug

I'd have to say the 36310 DAK one would be best, as you have the oprions on the hats, he has a decent pose, and isn't done up like an officer. Not to mention ya get a few freebies, like the chaneleon, the water jugs, and the jerrycan.

Do it right, with some pins at his waist, and you could switch him from the turret to the rest of the stock diorama (with the very-tacky cactus) without much trouble. I'd ditch the cactus though, and make up a clump of plant, like dry grass stalks.

I will do that, I doub't my russian tiger would see one of those. Can you post pics of your figs? I have never painted any others just the rubber one above, I had all sorts of problems with the paint coming off but after about a quarter can of testors dullcote and a couple of angry moments it seems to be holding up. What would you reccomend for flesh color? I ended up using wood gloss and painting on the dullcote b/c the nearest hobbyshop is a hour drive one way[:@]

I saw my local Wal-Mart had a bunch of the 1:18 soldiers over the weekend. I could only find 2 German soldiers though. Most were US GI's. There were something like 5.00 each.

Just surfing around aimlessly I found another source, Blue Box (or BBI) who also makes a 1:18 scale articulated figure series known as Elite Force. No German figures listed in this source but for those who want US forces, BBI would serve well.

Also, 21st Century Ardennes Infantry Tanker figure:
Might just be the loader you are looking for...

I know his snow camo smock limits him to winter use but it could be painted with minor fuss to represent the Waffen SS EM 44 Dot camouflage or something similar. You might be able to paint it field gray and not insult the experts, perhaps.

And... Here's a review of the WWII Wehrmacht Tank Crewman Afrika Korps:

Good pics and closeups of the unpainted figure and sprues, etc.

Harquebus

Sorry for the delay... I appreciate the links that you have provided I have the WWII Wehrmacht Tank Crewman on order now. If it works out as a half figure like WhiteWolf McBride mentioned I will be set.

Hey finished up. I would like to thank all who posted replies! I ended up using the basic tamiya tank figure and filling him up with apoxie sculpt then sawing him in half just below his left pant pocket. Looks good enough for me!:D

Really great job, Snowmansfury. [sm=thumbup.gif] You painted red trim on the lapel.....I don't get it. How is that even possible? It is so TINY!

It frustrates me that I am absolutely unable to paint like that! I mean, other people do it.....what's wrong with me, man?!! :D

The secret is in the toothpicks;) Dip the tip into the paint that stays on the inside of your lid and "draw" it on. just re-dip and drag in short strokes. thats all there is to it! You can also paint the medals, belt buckle, buttons and eyes this way too.

Well, I'll be.

Thanks for the tip! [sm=thumbup.gif]
