TAMIYA PERSHING BUILD. NEED POINTERS
1 Attachment(s)
Got My Pershing today and want to get all information and tricks to building her. I know about the bearing stuff but what about the idlers and wiring? How to install TBU emitter inside turret and other tricks.
What do you have in yours and what have you done custom or wish you had. Finally, I need the correct paint colors used on late WWII tanks. |
RE: TAMIYA PERSHING BUILD. NEED POINTERS
Convienent is a charge switch with external plug because opening the tank to change a battery is troublesome.
Paint: Colors are pretty much as vast as for the Sherman except less so[:@] Basically Olive Drab, although a few in 3AD had black stripes over OD. My Example of black over OD. http://img5.photobucket.com/albums/v...shing-40-3.jpg |

I know that you may have started your Pershing, but here are a few links of models. I build 1/35 scale WWII tanks and I use these as a reference. Hope this helps.

RE: TAMIYA PERSHING BUILD. NEED POINTERS
Only mod I made was the BYA idler upgrade. I had trouble initially with the tension of the tracks but the vaiable positions allowed by the new idler have ended all problems. I also took apart the speaker box to add room inside. A charging jack and Deans connectors are my next mods. Do all you can to reduce the spaghetti. If you get the Spektrum radio, it reduce the antenna and receiver space up front. Our new DAK member has figured out how to get both weapons to fire without adjusting trim tabs too. The front hatches are a perfect place to put the charging jack and we can get you some of that speaker cloth for under the engine deck if you want.

RE: TAMIYA PERSHING BUILD. NEED POINTERS
DH,
I was able to get everything to fit without cutting the speaker box, but it is tight. I used Deans connectors to AND got rid of the "Y" adapter, Both black boxes are wired to one side of the Deans plug. The wires coming up from the hull to the turret need attention. Someone recommended a tape that sticks to itself, but not everything else, they found at Autozone or some other car store. Wire ties will work, but are more likely to get stuck due to their bulk. Everybody raves about the idler upgrade, but mines run for quite a while with no track problems using the stock unit. If you are going to mount the LED in the mantle PLAN AHEAD, and don't forget to recess it. I used a brass tube to make it match a stock Tiger. That way your are using a cannon, not a shotgun! Will try to post some pict later. Ethan, you need to post some, you tanks look great as well as run well. Kevin O'C <S.C.A.T.> |
RE: TAMIYA PERSHING BUILD. NEED POINTERS
:Dgreetings ffr2608 as others have said on pointers for your pershing build is to get the upgrades now as you build the dean ultra plug for battery is the way to go also need to get is bearing kit for road wheels ect. and contact tom w/ www.tomsrctanks.com he has some good upgrades for gun elevation replacement gears and turret rotation replacement gears and will have other parts ect. as for the idler upgrade i could not find a happy medium the tracks was to loose or to tight but with the upgrade it was easy to adjust the tracks better.depending what type of controller and reciever you get and how big of battery you use especialy the reciever as said the lower hull is very small so size of battery will come into affect (my reason for cutting speaker box in half.) where you can put it. and where you can mount on/off switch i choose to mount the reciever on/off switch in the commanders coupla (just an option if not using battle system).the other difficult thing is to get all of your wiring harnesses together either with small plastic ties or tape up real good as not to snag on anythig inside whil turret is moving and try to follow wiring diagram somewhat? if possible and remember to buy some thread lock compond tamiya is very bad to use(messsssy). a thought for metal tracks? and be careful with tail and head lights fragile will break easy. good luck on your pershing build DAN:D
