HL Pershing

Hi all,

Persuaded my cousine on a picking up an HL tank. Gave him the Mato link and he has chosen the Pershing thats currnetly on clearance. Can anyone tell us if its worth it. Can't beat $43 bucks. It does not have the smoking generator or metal gears. Is this version more prone to electronic failure hence it being on clearance?

Thanks to anyone that does reply back..

I never bought one of the non-smoke and sound versions so I cannot really comment. But, based on the overall consensus it sounds like more of a gamble because the newer HL's (regardless if it's a Tiger or Pershing) have improved electronics since they are of the "New Generation", or shall we say a more recent innovation.

Just because it's on clearance does not mean that it will be prone to failure. In essence, all HL tanks are prone to failure. However, Mato is a reputable dealer and should be able to resolve any problems should any arise.

This does not rule out that your cousin cannot upgrade the electronics if they should fail or become problematic.

My advice would be to persuade your cousin to buy the S&S version of the Pershing as it will provide more realistic tank operation as the speed control is akin to proportional instead of OFF and FAST. Not to mention the smoke and sound functions make it more fun.

Then again, if he does not really care for the Gee Whiz factor provided by the smoke and sound functions, then he should do all right with the $43 clearance special.

Cannot fault anybody for going that route.

harq,

we both appreciate your speedy reply. After he read the post, he went and ordered the SS version. Hopefully he'll be as happywith the pershing as I am with my tiger. I've already put about 2 hrs of run time thru it.. two thumbs up for Harq:D

That's great. I'm gratified that I've been of some help.

Keep us posted as to how it turns out when his new tank arrives.

Perhaps you two can now settle your differences on the battlefield... :D Axis versus Allies.

Hi ONLY buy a smoke and sound version of the hen long tanks as the non S&Sound versions have only 2 speeds farward and for turning ...they stink i hade a few of them but when HL made the new S& sound versions they drive much better more like a real RC does 10 speeds now!

And look at all the fun things one can do to improve the overall esthetics of the Heng Long Pershing...

Got to hand it to the Germans to be the best at perfecting the lowly HL.
Taking it to the next level and beyond.[sm=wink_smile.gif]

well guys, just wanted to share some pics taken today of my tiger and cousin's pershing. I'll be adding about 4 oz of stick on weights on the pershing. It has a hard time climbing up unlike my tiger. Don't know if its the design of the thread thats causing it not to climb up smoothly. the pershing, however, has yet to throw a track even on very rought terrain. Very Impressed! Overall we had a good hourr of axis vs Allies battle. the winner went to my tiger!!!!:D

Added also pics of the products used on the pershing. Maybe helpful to those that are on a budget like us!

does the tiger have metal tracks? since no one is saying anything about my panther (got it last week) in the post a pic of your tank. go there and tell me what you think.

RE: HL Pershing

I think the unspectacular climbing ability may be due to the Pershing having its gear drives and motors at the rear versus the Tiger having its drive unit at the front--sort of a front-wheel-drive tank. Basically a center of gravity problem going on here and the Tiger does better with its forward weight bias. You're on the right track though, and the Pershing should benefit from having some weight added up front.

Gratified that the 'Persh' has yet to throw a track. That's what I'm talking about!! :D

Great paint job on those tanks. The camo pattern on the "Big P" is real tight. You did real well using those budget products. Great pics too! Wow...

kdog, the tiger tracks are stock. I was about to pick up the metal set but decided not to since they're still in perfect shape. I haven't broken a link yet. However, I am on my third set of front drive wheels. The darn thing keeps breaking apart on me. I placed an order this morning with Mato for the metal set and the WSN T34. Looking forward to upgrading that with the HL electronics. Not to shabby on the panther painting. I may have seen similar paints schemes but not just that:) color. regardless, I myself wouldn't mind having it as part of my mobile arsenal.[sm=thumbup.gif]

harq, man what a big difference with the added weights up front. easily climbs a 30deg mound of dirt with ease now! NExt project for me is a T34 and some videos.[sm=bananahead.gif]

So how much weight did you add in total? I added a pound to mine. My tank also has a brass barrel so I added weight at the rear of the turret to counter-balance it too.
