Track paint

Has anyone tried the Krylon Hammered Metal paint on tracks? The 1/16 scale may be to small. On larger scales it might look good. Its not cheap at around $6 a can. Just wondering if its been tried.

I just paint mine flat black and then drive. Over time mud, sand and dust will adhere to the black and look quite convincing. Especially after the high points get worn down from use.
