Suspension arm tubes break

Hi all,

I decided to try the HL instead of plunking $$ on a Tamiya. Want to see how fun these can be.

I noticed that the suspension arms on HL appear to break often... I mean, the mounts where the arms go breaks off. Is this a chronic problem with Heng Long tanks?

I have noticed most guys discuss breaking the axles for their arms when changing either the road wheels or changing the arms themselves to metal. I had no problem removing my road wheels. I only have about 1 hour on my tank and now I am doing a total rebuild. I think it is part of the fun of having an HL. I have basically researched the problems, researched what I want my tank to do, and have decided to rebuild considering the combination of the both. I am focusing on structural concerns and mechanical first, then paint and body. In teh end I will likely redue some of the electronics. One guy used angle stainless steel to reinforce the sides to allow bolts to be used as replacement axles. The bonus is the metal, once all teh edges are sealed with a silicone adhesive/sealant, also stops water from entering the tank from the sides where the road wheels attach.

Thanks. I'm trying an approach using washers... and if it seems flimsy, I'll use miliput.

If you buy a set of metal suspension arms from Asiatam, you get a full set of replacement brass shafts and screws with them. I didnt fit them all, I simply kept them and during my latest project, i broke three plastic ones off trying to get wheels off, so..I had plenty of replacements. Pic of the mentioned shafts, and the fix below.
hope this helps

Just ressurecting this thread. I did a google search for Heng Long tank Chassis and found out that in UK, there is a seller offering metal reinforments for the suspension tubes. Anyone tried these out?

I'll try Asiatam out. Thanks.

New Heng Long tanks come with metal mounts now. I bought a pair of the aftermarket ones to try out, haven't put them in yet.

Thanks Swathdiver. Is there a way to determine which ones have metal mounts? I'm looking at matotoys site.

How much did you get the metal mounts for?

No, you'd have to ask. Last time I spoke with him he said the latest batch had them but don't know what his stock is so it's best to send an e-mail first.

I think Mato has all new stock and it appears as if the metal reinforcement is now standard,(On the Tiger)

I sent Mato an email, but no response yet to confirm about the metal reinforcement on the chassis. Will keep you guys posted.

Some of these new additions are great.... but hopefully it will not take the fun out of the mod's one USED TO HAVE TO DO! :)
I am definitely behind the times with all the new stuff that comes from the factory
