tooth paste for bad teeth

OK, this may sound wierd and a fine play on words but has anyone heard of using toothpaste as a break-in media for metal gears? I have heard of it in the automotive world. It has excellent lubricious and abbrasive properties. Might give it a try and report back. My HL's are sapping too much power.

I have, in this forum as a matter of fact. First, remove the oil and grease from the metal gears. Then apply toothpaste to all the teeth and run the gears for an hour or two. Afterward, clean off the toothpaste and apply new grease to the gears.

not the gel but the abrasive paste, I'm thinking Crest.

Another thing that works great is any type of puice hand cleaner. You know the type that you can feel the grit and it washes off easily..

For all intents and purposes, abrasive toothpaste is essentially very fine grit rubbing compound. Many RC car racers have been using it to break-in their drivetrains for well over 25 years.

Now consider what it does to your teeth!

Titanium Dioxide.....not good

Excuse the ignorance.... What is the best way to get the toothpaste off without taking the gearbox apart? Is there a magic solvent to use other than water?

It works well. Runs alot smoother and the toothpaste had a bit of silver glint in it when finished. I hooked the gearbox up to a D cell battery and applied the toothpaste and let it run for an hour and 45 minutes while I ate dinner!

still a bit noisy but more "free" in tightness. Those old school modelers can teach me anytime. I was wrong!

With teh hand cleaner I just used REALLY HOT water... of course.. unscrew teh electrical motor... lubricated them... NO PROBLEMS, NO BUILD-UP...
