The Future

Just spitballing here, lets say all us HL tankers need more range/reliability/whatever in the future. With the accumulated knowledge here I bet we could come up with a great internal system to match the great looks we are getting out of these HL's. I have been looking at converting at least 1 of my tanks to a Spektrum DX-6 or DX-7 radio, ESC, Tamiya battle system, its the defacto IR system at the moment, probably use http://pages.cthome.net/chioc/products.htm .

I guess the Elmod stuff for sound or other needed tank effects/control?

I have found this ESC that looks like it would work for a tank:

You can get that ESC for much less money. However, you will be stuck with either old technology 27MHz or 40MHz. The Sabertooth 2x10 RC is a better ESC for tanks, in my opinion.

I don't think a DX controller would be necessary. They aren't exactly cheap. And using those on HL would be a waste, unless you have a really highly modified HL. I'd rather spend the money upgrading the tank itself.

i agree.

except id rather spend the money buying more tanks because as we all know, you cant stop at just 10 [8D]

To me, Heng Long current S&S electronics are pretty good and provide the tank with good controls, smoke, and sound. If you already have the S&S version, then it's not really necessary to upgrade to another transmitter and ESC.

When you are running those HL's, how many do you run at a time? Are the radios well behaved?

At a Battleday, we can sometimes have 15-25 tanks running, so we HAVE to be careful about frequencies. Even when you think you freq is clear, you can still glitch or get hit. That is why more people are moving to Spektrum or the new Futaba spread spectrum radios.

Cheap insurance - cut your self a 2x4 about 12-18" long - alway put your tank on the wood when not running it. (For our metric friends, cut a scrap of wood that fits under your tank, clear the tracks, and lift them a few inches off the ground)

All it takes is to watch yours or someone else tank launch itself off a table to know why this is a good idea:eek:

I find a lot of 3-6 channel stick FM radios on ebay going for 50-200. Very nice ones too.
