My Tiger Video Setup
1 Attachment(s)
Here's my video setup on my Tiger. Added the figures too. The camera is an ebay micro camera. About $50 delivered. I attach it to the turret with double sided foam tape so I can take it off easily when I need. I power it with a 9V battery that easily fits inside the turret, even with my gun mods and laser. The receiver is shown, came with the camera. I just prop it up in a window. Next I bought this composite to USB 2 converter which allows me to stream live video to my computer in real time and export video files for editing. About $40 from Tiger Direct (ironic huh :)).
So for my telepresence fun I sit in my home office and watch the screen like a tanker would see out their view port and drive around the yard. Even with the house around me the HL transmitter and camera still have about a 200 foot range. Here's my first video with the setup so no great editing, plot, or carnage. The gun was disabled since the dog has a tendency to attack my tanks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63qlqBhoI7E |
RE: My Tiger Video Setup
The minicams are a lot of fun...have one on my 1/6 Stuart in the driver's periscope mount and one on the 1/9 Abrams on the gunners persicope mount. Had problems finidng space in any of my 1;16 tanks, to mount it inside.
You should paint the inside of the hatch doors the same as the outside of the tank...NEVER white. It waves a flag to the enemy saying "here I am" when open and destroys the effect of any camo scheme. Plus when buttoned up, it makes a contrast to interior white and marks the exit when inside is smoky and you have to unass in a hurry. |
RE: My Tiger Video Setup
yeah, I'll have to do something, the hatches are a little bright.

RE: My Tiger Video Setup
In my Tiger which has an airsoft gun the camera will be mounted inside the mantlet viewing out through the gunners twin sights. Should give a realistic view of what they saw back in the day. My Pershing with the camera mounted on top of the barrel and mantlet offers a view similar to yours, its disguised in a searchlight and is IR capable. Don't have it hooked up to a recording device yet, didn't know they made those composite to usb cables.

RE: My Tiger Video Setup
Same one I got, I think it would be the coolest way to have a IR or airsoft battle, it really gives the closest simulation of real tank visual limitations.

RE: My Tiger Video Setup
wondering how complicated it would get to mount a minicam with the gun, like out the telescope port and another in the driver's seat....take a 2 man tank crew, but would be a very tough opponent to take out. Be like running a 1;1 scale. On the Stuart, I could do it, but I have a hard time finding any room inside the turret of any of my 1;16 stuff. Think there would be interference with the cam electronics?

RE: My Tiger Video Setup
the camera should not interfere with the elec's or vice versa. You probably would need two radio systems, one for the gunner and one for the driver, unless you plan on bith using the same transmitter. Probably easier to do on the Stuart.
