Paint on rust effect where do you get it from?
 

My friend has just bought a second hand tank, and the man who had it before him has painted a rust effect on and apparently you can buy this solution to mix and paint on .Does anyone know where you can get it from ?

:DTesors model master rust color ...mix baking soda in some and it works veru well.

What I have is called rustall, it comes with a bottle for the rust a bottle to blacken a bottle of a very fine dirt and a bottle of dull coat. It is supplied from a company out of San Francisco, California. www.rustall.com, about 25.00 US

I just used PVA glue and some fine sand.

Here's my first attempt at rust you might want to try:

1. Liberally brush on Aqueous Hobby Color "Rust" acrylic paint or equivalent
2. Before the rust colored paint dries, sprinkle on some talcum powder, corn starch, baking powder or other similar powder
3. Dab on Tamiya XF-10 Flat Brown (covering some of the powder that hasn't taken on the color of the rust)
4. Wipe on some black to simulate soot
5. For added effects, Tamiya sells a "Weathering Master" kit that has some bright Orange rust you can apply for highlights

"Tamiya weathering master A" and "B" and "C" ... very good handling and effects. Also in addition towards a basic air brush weathering very usefull ! [sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

Here are some mufflers I did.... using rustall... But I have and work around rusty equipment that gets hot.... I find that it does not flake and you can see bare metal through the rust. This is as long as it is in continuous use of course... if it sits.. it rusts... but once heated again on a regular basis the flakes drop off. What I did is after the rustall dried I gently rubbed my fingers over it to knock off the flakes. Of course I have NOT added the effects of the exhaust yet.

Wait till I have to do my tank... I have a 4" Brush and a gallon of latex. Is that right?

Back on the topic of rust....

First of all rust is layered... and it is effected by gravity. As for the layering... it works out if you keep trying. Actually by continuing to try you may achieve the true irregular texture and colour of rust. As for gravity, ie on teh side of the hull that is the tricky part.... That sort of rust will just consist of a watery stain... aka... A WASH.... One thing I have learned here... even though we are all anxious to get our project complete... take your time. I found even taking my time and doing lots of coats on my hull I am getting teh irregular effect that was probably on a real tank. Remember... teh tank did not go to the bondo shop before hitting paint then battle.
