Tamiya King Tiger - another question

Hi folks

I have a question with regard to my Tam KT. When using it things do not work as they say in the manual. I have plugged everything in the correct ports in the DMDs and receiver etc but it makes no difference. According to the manual that comes with the kit the book states left stick should control drive fwd and back and turret traverse while the right does direction and gun firing options.

What it actually does is

left stick - up down makes the gun raise and lower and left right traverses the turret.
right stick - up down makes the tank go fwd or back and left right makes it go left right in direction.

Also, the main gun fires when the left stick is pulled down but I cannot get machine gun fire no matter what I do.

Is the book wrong or is my tank wrong?

As usual all help gladly received.

Thanks
Gorehound

Hi Gorehound my KT works like it says in the manual as you have it listed the funny thing is i want mine to be like yours is and have one stick do all the steering and the other doing the turret and gun :) i have been told to swop the cables in the receiver around and this should do it I just haven't got round to it yet

Cheers Ian

Hi Ian

I have tried swapping them about as well but it then does all wonderfull things, just not as you want them.

Do you want to swap tanks - it would be easier than trying to sort them :D

Hi Ian

I have triewd the reset thing but it made no difference. The fact the machine gun does not work is the most annoying bit as I could live with the other stuff although I would prefer it as per the instructions.

PS. I never have these problems with my Heng Longs...... :)

Hi Gorehound
when you set the dmd where the trim tabs centred as i have heard of this causing the gun main or machine gun not to function

The main problem you have here is not plugging the right cable in to the receiver slots, if you bought a radio other than the futaba 4wd, i.e. other brands, their channels might be different. On plugging the channels differently than that speciflied inteh instruction manual an dthen trying to set up as per instruction manual will not work. You have to compare the channel 1 to 4 on your transmitter instruction manual with the tamiya one and try to match them, then set up the sticks as per the instruction manul of the tank.

I had the same problem when I tried to use a Futaba Skysport4 radio...everything was all wrong...Then I got a Futaba attack 4ch put it in and all is perfect....it is the radio setup...From that day on I only buy from www.hlj.com
all their Tamiya kits are Japanese releases, meaning they all come complete with Futaba attack 4ch radio, 7.2v Tamiya custom battery, and charger. The Radio is aready configured so no compatibility issues. To me it is a good value...with the total price w/ EMS shipping (get it in 4 days) it is about the same if I would have to buy everything separtely,(kit, radio system, battery, charger, shipping for everything)on ebay or my local hobbyshop.

Did another reset as you suggested Ian making sure trim tabs were centred and now my machine gun works - superb. To be honest the rest I can now live with as it is the same sort of set up as my HL tanks so makes jumping between the two easier.

Many thanks to all who helped and I will post pics of the finished tank soon.

cheers

No problem, you should now get max fun from your Tamiya KT.

Also go deeper in the site, it has tons more great tips.

Known Tamiya KT full option operation setup issues:

If turret rotation is a problem, just glue the turret rotation clutch gear solid (found atop the turret rotation unit). This black plastic clutch gear slips under torque and is a common problem. Remove the gear from the unit before gluing. The gear is easy to remove and replace.

If the Tamiya idlers can not be properly adjusted, I recommend the Daryl Turner idler spring tensioner system.

If the main gun plastic elevation arm fails order a Daryl Turner metal arm and push the little metal stop tabs flush (flat).

email for parts cost and mailing charges if and when needed (the parts are easy to install during and after build completion):
