Leo Gun Stabilizer
I received and installed the gun stabilizer, today...not crazy about it. [:o] Simply giving the tank some throttle often makes the barrel go down, but otherwise it reacts slowly. The movements do not seem very fluid or in balance with the tank unless I move very slowly. Then, they seem exaggerated.
Am I doing something wrong? Can I adjust it? Is that just the way it works? See what you think: http://media.putfile.com/Leopard-Stabilizer-Test Thanks for any help! Chad |
RE: Leo Gun Stabilizer
No thats about right. Its a neat gimmic at slow speds but it isnt smooth enough to replicate the motion of the real thing. I have heard of people experimenting with mini RC helo gyros to act as a balancer/sensor.

RE: Leo Gun Stabilizer
Thanks, Leo2A6 Owner. That's what I was afraid of. People who have never tried one may not believe it, but in that video I did not touch the barrel elevation even once. All of the barrel movements were the result of the stabilizer unit. [&o]
Oh well, Chad |
RE: Leo Gun Stabilizer
I tell you what, after adding the stabilizer and the battle unit, my turret is really getting crowded. [:o]

RE: Leo Gun Stabilizer
No, thats NOT about right. Stonecold, somethings wrong. I've had this happen once before, it was when I first installed a GBS in my 2nd Leo, I removed the GBS, did a DMD reset, then everything was fine. That was year ago and no problems since.
Try unplugging the GBS, reset the DMD, and plug it back in and see what happens. Just a side note, thats one reason why I don't like servos, I wish Tamiya had used a real motor for main gun elevation. Its fine for except for when the gun is at maximum elevation or depression, there is a delay, but in between those two settings its fine. Will |
RE: Leo Gun Stabilizer
Stonecold, after activating the GBS, make sure you return the trims back to center setting, I just duplicated your problem by leaving the trim tabs in place, returning them to their central point should solve your problem.

Thanks! I'll certainly give it a try. [sm=thumbup.gif]

RE: Leo Gun Stabilizer
The instructions for the stabilizer state there is a delay built in so that is normal.
Fast motions the stabilazer may have difficultly reacting. I do find with mine, somtimes it will overshoot a bit then recover after stopping. The unit is really cool when traversing the turret on incline, the barrel will stay true to level as it rotates! |
