Existence doubt.
 

Hi, guys.
I am very new in the world of the RC. I see many forums in many languages, but I only understand Spanish and English (bad). In many places I see people that puts a fan inside the HL tank.
Why? Is the electronics of HL so bad?
Where and how is connected? I suppose that it is a fan of PC. Does it work well with the voltage of the tank?

It connects to the where positive (+) red cable connects to the circuit board coming from the battery, and the black negative (-) comes from the power switch to the circuit board.

I have done this on 2 of my tanks, one more to go. If you post a picture of the back of your circuit board, I can tell you where the fan's connections go

I thought that the connection of the fan would be more complicated. I believe that I can connect it directly to the ignition switch without problems. My idea is to use the fan to ventilate the interior of the tank and to substitute the noisy motor of the smoke generator. I saw it in the following post:

Another thing: somebody knows if it possible to repair a smoke generator. I think that mine has died.

On the site that Uhu mentioned, the Heng Long smoker is very similar to the one called "AristoCraft Smoke Unit". It has a wick and some kind of cotton-like material many refer to as "batting" in the bottom of the smoke oil tank. I have opened mine up and removed all but a small portion of the batting to improve the smoke output. It works very well now and puts out a lot of smoke.

As that site suggests, the oil is indeed vaporized by a heater element, usually a wire. It is also true that the smoker will fail if it runs out of oil because it overheats. That seems to be the main reason for HL smoker failure.

Batting? I don't understand what it is. Is it something similar to the glass fiber? If was cotton it would burn.
Did you open your smoker without problems? Is it difficult?

Batting stands for "guata". Sort of fabric stuff. The most accurate spanish term for the item used in smoke gens would be "mecha", similar in texture to "guata" but weaved around a cotton core.
I've made tests with NiCr foam cutting wire at voltages ranging from 6V to 11.3V but the current draw was too high, best solution if you want a working smoke unit is replacing the mechanical pump with a PC fan and keep always wet the stuff at the heating element (just wet, not inmersed in smoke liquid)
