Bovington
Well I went to the Bovington Tank Museum and was absolutely floored with all the stuff they have. Anybody going should know this is one fine tank museum. I only gave myself a few hours, but I think you could spend a couple of days there. It was great seeing the prototypes of the models. I highly recommend this to anyone traveling to England. I can't figure out why they wouldn't be selling Heng long tanks in the gift shop though!!!!!!!!. Seems to me this would be a natural place to host an RC tank event as well.

RE: Bovington
They do host a model tank event every year. There are RC tanks there as well. 1/6 scale ones. They get to use the actual driving track out there.

RE: Bovington

RE: Bovington
I went there in '92 to visit an old WW II tank Co CO and he took me to Bovington. I was very impressed at everything...except my old combat horse M-46 which was in pieces, being restored. I observed ther quietest and smoothest running M-4A3E8 Sherman I have even seen and was able to back up a Pz III for a few feet to let another tank out. (this was an error as they thought it was one of their guys inside, but goody for me). The Battle Day was impressive and I have a lot of respect for British tank crews.
On another theme, just was informed that HL will be putting out a STU III in November and a Pz IV and KV-1 should be in Europe very soon. They are also studying a Crusader Mk II, KT and Sherman. (which model ?). Now, if they can just tweak the electronics a bit and leave out the extra screws that eventually stick to the motors... Bill |

Just come back from spending a day and a half there. Wow! the collection is superb and really well presented. Thursday was the tanks in action day and they were driving a Cheiftan a Sherman Firefly and a Leopard 1 amongst other things. The Tamiya Hall with the relatively modern tanks is impressive but the best was the wwII desert hall with the 3 in a row as shown on the attached pic.
Its £10 to get in but that will last for a year and you can return as many times as you like within that year. Thorughly enjoyable place. I spent hours around the Tiger and PZKWIII and have loads of detail photos for my HL upgrades. I shall post a few later. |

Hi fv432 yep a great day and a half.
No I only had 2 days down there so most of it was spent at the Bivington museum. I did think about going across to see the lads at the IOW initially but I just didnt have the time. I could have done with another couple of days I reckon:D I shall post a few detail images in a separate thread of the Bovi PZKWIII. There are some interesting details which I think I will add to my HL PZIII |
