Source for Gear Reduction for Tamiya Pershing
 

Anyone have a source for some 3:1 gear reductions for a Tamiya Pershing with the black covered transmissions? I'm looking to slow mine down.

Jeff,

You’ve got a Specktrum don’t you? Set the throttle for dual rate. High rate full throttle and the low rate the max speed you want. That way when you get 4 or 5 hits and the tank slows down you flip to the high rate and get some speed back.[sm=eek.gif][sm=rolleyes.gif]

Just kidding... :DBut you can use the dual rate or the end point adjustment to tone down max speed.

Hey Jeff;

I used the long can Speed 400 motors in my M26A1.

Overall speed was reduced plus it still has some speed when it's down to the last 1 or 2 hits.

Doug, your memory is correct. I am using Spektrum, and that's a great idea! I'll investigate this tonight. I know I have that manual somewhere...

Jeff, as usual, you have a good idea. I should have known you'd have tried this first on your Persh. I bought a pair of Graupner 480's and am going to install them. I don't know the no-load rpm of the stock 380 Johnson motors, so I'm unsure of the speed after the motor upgrade. FYI, as to pinion gears, I had a hard time finding 10t 3.17mm (1/8 inch) pinion gears, but finally found some. I wish they had the set screw, but they are slip fit, secured by green loctite. I just got the loctite (had a heck of a time finding it too) I don't know how the new motors will affect the speed though.

I'll do before and after comparisons and post the results for each mod I try.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your pinion gears at? I want to play around with my new M4A3E8 Sherman. Green Locktite can be found at any automotive parts store, and the other grades of the adhesive as well. I buy mine from AutoZone.

The Graupner's are a quality product, I have some 280 motors in my WSN T34/85 when I upgraded the electronics to Tamiya.

As the gree loctite, I could find blue and red, but not green. I tried all kinds of auto parts stores. I finally got it off of Amazon.
