T-34 engine grill replacement

Thought you guys might like to see how I replaced my WSN T-34 engine screen. I bought this metal screen package at Micheals Crafts. Wasn't very expensive and its enough to last a lifetime.

I cut out the original solid grill and thinned the edges. Superglue with accelerator got the grill in place. The frame work is some thin sheet metal I had laying around. The bolt heads are plastic rod cut offs.

Beautiful grille -- I'd like to put one on my T-34.... !! Just what kind of "sheet metal" did you use for the framework?

Great work!

In the unpainted pic is looks like the surface has been burnt or something. If painted right it could look like pitting and rust.

Looks great. I love finding stuff at hardware stores or crafts stores for my tanks. It turns a trip to the home imporvement center into a hobby shopping experience!!!!

I had that laying around my workbench for some time. I THINK it came from a coffee can lid or something like that. Its thicker than tin foil but still bends easily.

When I sanded the area where the antenna was it smoothed out the plastic. I used plastic glue dabbed on with an old brush to recreate the rough surface. I moved the antennea to the top of the turret. Once its weathered everything should blend together.

I may still block off the bottom of the grill with fine black plastic mesh since you can still see the speaker and wires underneath. To bad they put a halfway descent speaker in there just to hear the lousy cannon sound and NO engine sound. It almost sounds like the cannon blast recording is playing in reverse!
