Leopard 2

OK, decision time. Hobby Engine / Graupner Leopard 2 for my Christmas present, or not???? Sorry, just cannot justify Tam's Leo prices, unless someone wants to buy one for me, then....P-L-E-A-S-E!!!!!!!!!) :D

I know they have "issues" (electronics poor / rubber band tracks / etc) but visually they aren't bad surely? If I was to take the plunge, has anyone had any experiences with modifying one of these, into a HL powered beastie perhaps? At around the £80 mark ($160 ish), decent size piece of kit for the money, or not???

Suggestions:
1/ Fit Pershing drive / sprockets / tracks (similar from a distance.....OK rivet-counters calm down, I did say "from a distance"!!:D)

2/ Fit HL S&S electronics for better control

3/ Add Tamiya / aftermarket parts to make it more Tamiya-like visually

4/ Thorough paint-job to finish

and, ....voila.....silk purse (or maybe not, more like a lesser pig's ear perhaps?)

Come on guys, give me some enthusiastic noises here......please?? If you make it sound feasible I only have 4 weeks to get it bought to send to Santa

Cheers

RE: Leopard 2

Do you already have the Pershing sprockets and tracks? If you have to buy them anyway, why not buy the Leopard sprockets and tracks? Sure they're expensive...

It sounds like a decent idea if you can make it work. :D

Good Luck!

RE: Leopard 2

I have one of these waiting for such a conversion also have a Tamiya Leo still in the box to build I am going to upgrade to metal tracks for the Tamiya so will use the leftover tracks for the hobby engine one ..... probably use Pershing gearboxes if the Tam Leo sprockets fit ....might go El-mod for the electronics... still a while away as other projects to finish 1st

The upper hull of the Hobby engine Leo is not bad looking it surprised me :D

Won mine of Ebay for $20 with shipping it came to $40 ....Twenty quid I was happy that day :D:D:D only thing was its a US charger so i havent even driven it yet

Cheers Ian
