Another week has flown by and there has been some real intersting things on the board. Why not use this thread to post a highlight picture with a link to your build thread. Kind of make this an index for the weeks past work.
I installed a Darkith DBC/cw sound and built a new DBU. Instead of trying to make it look like a Tamiya TBU, I made it smaller and less noticable. With a little work a person could have easy made the cupula the TBU. However I am using connectors so I can swap the DBU with other tanks. so that is why I went the way I did. |
RE: SNFF 2008-01-06
That is sweet YHR. The paint job gives tank surface a nice look. Hmmmmm, and I like the idea of building the DBU into the cupula.

No pictures, cannot find my cameras! All 3 of them! Dang kids! [:@]
Anyhoo, camouflage is done, most of parts are back together, road wheels are finally on, sprockets and idlers too. Going to make the stencils and decals after I type this then apply them. After that, all the wiring, lighting, gun, interior turret and electronics have to be completed and tested then weathering will start. The parts bags are getting smaller but still quite a bit to do! |

I really like your Sensor tower ( DBU Apple ) Have you tested it in bright sunlight, is it enough cover for the IR sensors?? The Blitz |
RE: SNFF 2008-01-06
I have run it outside and I never got any false hits, but I haven't tested the strike distance in sunlight.

RE: SNFF 2008-01-06
At the last Night battle I attended, my Nikon D40 set off battle systems on some of the Tank Hobby systems. Makes it kind of hard to get decent shots. Or we could use it as artillery.

RE: SNFF 2008-01-06
More like a cluster Bomb!:D Man I will have to test that with the DBC system, it should react the same as TBU as long as the shading is proper, but I still have to test this!

With a digital camera, you should be able to see the DBC/TBU IR emitter "Fire" if you watch the viewfinder screen...

RE: SNFF 2008-01-06
Yeah I was just saying that its handy for testing IR leds to make sure theyre working properly. Quick test is to grab a TV remove and hold the LED near your camera lense, press a button and watch it light up on your digital cameras view-screen.
Handy since we cant "see" IR, so we'd never know it was the emitter that was faulty... well not easily :) |
RE: SNFF 2008-01-06
Cool, definately I can see that coming in real handy!
Thanks The Blitz |

Hey YHR,
How did you build the storage cage on the back of your Mark III? |

Some detail progress on my play and fight battleday full option Tamiya Sherman M4A3E8 76W Easy 8. The build uses Nick Aquilar’s T-23 Turret, mantlet, barrel, muzzle and transmission cover. A Daryl Turner gear box mount brace, metal elevation arm is installed and the turret clutch gear is CA glued solid. The emitter is in the mantlet and I plan on adding a flashing MG in that mantlet too. Those are Tiger IE track links on the glacis plate. Down the road in 2008 I may go back and rework the rear deck vents and add the Pershing DMD unit for the Ford engine sounds, budget dependent. The tarp is painted toilet paper laid out flat (then folded) and the rope is painted nylon twine (no fuzzies hanging out). I used bowlines, square knots and 1/2 hitches, just like the TD Master Sarge uncle showed me as a kid.:D Weathering next. John |
RE: SNFF 2008-01-06
That Sherman looks great! I've been so resistant to spend the bucks and I hate the HVSS but everytime you guys post a new Sherman build, I get weaker and weaker! :( Fantastic Job!

RE: SNFF 2008-01-06
Well, my WSN T34 has been well and truly gutted!! (Thanks to some cunning coercion from a certain forum member who shall remain nameless...fv432...oops....LOL!!) It now sports HL S&S boards, complete with speaker but NOT the smoker. I followed Wackywheels excellent tutorial on swapping over the innards (together with fv's input as well!!) and managed not to fry anything!!!!
Unfortunately Wacky's tutorial was for the non-IR model so mine had a L-O-T more wires and plugs!!! AAARRRGGGHH!!! Following fv's advice, (so I would've blamed him if it had gone pear-shaped!!) yesterday saw me following lots ...and lots...and lots of wires around the turret trying to suss out where they all went, ......then promptly pulled them all out!!!! These will soon be heading for that big auction site on the interweb, along with a brand new (only used three times m'lord) transmitter and main board. I've made a note of every single wire / colour / routing as best I could, together with what I hope are in-focus pics (took a load when I first opened the tank and they were all blurred..doh!!!) So, what I'm in the process of doing now is putting a schematic together to assist people in the future, as well as for you more intelligent bods to give ME advice as to how to wire-up the thing so I have cannon recoil / cannon sound / tank "jerk" together...please??!! As soon as I've done the schematics / listings, then I'll do another new post for all, OK?? Tanxalot |

For the same reasons you just stated (I don't like the looks of the HVSS either), it is harder to stay focused on this build. But because it is a Sherman "Easy 8" (well almost), I kinda want to hang in there and see this build through. It's a keeper.:) |

RE: SNFF 2008-01-06
Tanxalot,
The pics you took would be greatly appreciated, perhaps even a build thread??? I have a Trumpeter T-34 IR tank arriving next week, along with HL S&S boards so I will need to pick your brain. |
