help with new project
hi everyone
so Ive had this idea for awhile to make my own tank platform to carry a small security cam. I originally started off with a Hen long panther tank and traveled my yard to the neighbors 2 houses down and would shoot my friend with bbs :D . I dont have the tank anymore..... no my neighbor didn't break it in anger :D I traded it for a flight simulator. now the plan is to use this old toy and make a tank that is built for roaming around my home and outside with left and right up and down cam view. im having trouble trying to find a way to make this all work, I have a idea of how this toys tranny would work but maybe you guys can help me come up with a better way. here are some pics (forgive me as they are bad quality) http://img2.putfile.com/main/3/7219253543.jpg this pic is the base, one motor on the top has gears going down to the main shaft that connects to the drum. http://img2.putfile.com/main/3/7219253639.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/main/3/7219253530.jpg this is the drum, it has layers. the way the model initially would work is only with a throttle (pistol grip with just the finger portion..... very cruddy, knew this when I was young also! haha) holding down forward, again turns to the right until you let off then straight, then hold again to the right until you let off and so on.... I need to make it work with a airplane radio, right now I would like the left stick to control forward left right revers and the right to control me camera positioning if possible (4 or 8 channel?) http://img2.putfile.com/main/3/7219253516.jpg rubber tracks :) around 4 inch long so I guess you can say I want to ditch the current drive and replace it with something better. hope you guys can help. RE: help with new project
This unit it too small to do exploring, think about it what are you going to be able to crawl over with 4 inch tracks you won't make it out of the grass! Buy the S & S version of the Heng Long Bulldog or Pershing ( S & S has a longer range radio so you can be furhter away when you are exploring) With the two tanks I recommended you can thrash them some and it could actually travers some hills or ditches even drop off a low curb to get to the neighbors yard.

Blitzkrieg gave you some good advice.Just wanted to let you know you can buy a ready made working tank,=Forward, reverse, left and right steering, moving turret, rechargeable battery, charger, and it's own transmitter. The tank is 11 inches long, and about 5 inches wide. You get all this for $22.00 dollars (or less) plus about 12 to 14 dollars shipping.Or you can buy a smoke and sound heng long 1/16 scale tank with a gun for about $62.00 dollars plus shipping, with all the typical tank functions. To start from scratch and to try to use a airplane type radio and build a tank,is not as easy as it sounds. It is far more practical to buy a working one and change it to suit your needs.Just some free advice and my opinion. BIGMIG ;););)
