RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
Thanks, Rob! I sent him an e-mail to see if he would consider selling it to me. If not, I will take Simon's advice and wait to see if I can find one on Ebay in the next few weeks. [sm=thumbs_up.gif]
EDIT: Lou has the shell of a Panzer III turret and will send it to me for only the cost of postage. [sm=thumbs_up.gif]:) Looks like I'm gonna be back in business! |

Yours Simon M. PS I feel confident I can get an LED to fit in the barrel. I'll also try to fit a second one behind it so you can get a muzzle 'flash' if you like? |
RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
Great build you have going. Im glad to know there is shurzen available. I am currently fighting with the Toma Shurzen on my Jagdpanzer Build but I think its starting to work out.
Great job. |

I finally got a chance to work some more on my tank, so I took a few pictures as I went along. So far, I installed the metal tension adjusters, metal swing arms, road wheels, return rollers, sprockets and idlers. I also put a plastic plate in the floor of the hull. The smoke dischargers were not too fun due to the fact that the screws and nuts are so tiny, but they are together.

RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
You raising the return rollers and using the metal ones Slick?

James, I am using metal rollers, but I honestly did not know that they needed to be raised. [:o] Are they glaringly too low on the HL Panzer III? I guess I never noticed, but it would be fairly easy to correct at this stage....if I don't break them trying to get'em off! :D
What is a good way to fill these holes? [sm=confused.gif] |
RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
Heng Longs use PVC plastic. Use that plastic plumbing glue and glue a piece of plastic behind the hole. Then use autobody spot putty to fill in the void and sand smooth. Works really well.
I just ordered all the parts to do this myself. The metal parts and stug gear box should turn this into a good runner. Or I hope it does. Now I just need Mato to restock the PZ III so I can get the tank to go with the parts I just ordered!!!!! |

I dug around in my tool box and came up with plastic card to CA to the inside of the hull and muffler repair putty to fill the holes. I will sleep with my fingers crossed tonight. :D

RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
I've never heard of muffler putty. Is it sandable???
|
RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
:D:D:D We'll see! I am willing to bet that I can sand it...or file it if nothing else!

RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
I think it was Gigantohawk that first noticed that the rollers were a little low. He referenced a posting on RC-Panzerketten where they raised the first one 3mm and the rear ones 4mm. He posted pics and talked about it on his build.
You've done already what I was going to suggest, using the styrene to fill the switch hole and putty (I use Great Planes) to fill the smaller ones. I also have some wood filler that I use occaisionally too. Looks good! |
RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
icecreamslick Hi, your build looks fantastic. I've not signed in recently and must have missed it when I have.
The return rollers are too low, the values are Front 2mm, Middle 4mm and rear 3mm. However I've recently raised the drive sprocket and rear idler, so I'm going to relook at those values. I got this link from panzerketten. There is some amazing PZIII detail work in the post and not just the rollers either. http://www.rc-panzerketten-forum.com...tuser=0&page=1 Nick |
RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
Will you be using metal return-roller mounts? I have them and they were a right PITA because the plastic ones had to be cut off (too much glue).

Pazerfaust77, I think I was lucky with mine. All I had to do was scrape off the glue blobs on the pins inside the hull and the mounts just came away.

RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
hey nick reckon the glue monkey had the day off on your tank LOL
|
RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
Haha yeah. Or maybe the vapours from all the glue he put on Panzerfaust77's tank put him in a tranquil and controlled state !! LOL.

RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
To remove mine, I didn't cut ant thin, remove outer roller, then with a small clamp, clamp the metal shaft and 3 little inner pegs together, this forces off the plastic without any damage cleanly.

RE: Panzer III Extensive Upgrade
Will you be using metal return-roller mounts? I'm still waiting for metal Tiger I lights to place on the fenders, but I may go back and replace the roller plastic mounts with metal and raise them to the correct height when I correct/relocate the lights. [sm=thumbs_up.gif] |
