Hi there.
As a fellow treadheaditus sufferer I have bad news for you, there is no cure.
I have the same symptoms as you;
Tiger 1 , metal upgraded everything, lot of detailing :- cost=unthinkable.
pershing, stock, paint job :- cost=cheap (so far)
pzrIII, not started yet.
you have my sympathies!!!
regards
Frank

To Fynsdad....love your Pershing- Redneck Boys! Very sweet job.

Now about this terrible case of "armoritis"....good choice on a second tank- I love my Pershing. I've spent about 100 hours on mine customizing so far, it is a very versatile tank. If you need anything looked up, I just got my book (recommended by this forum) "The M26 Pershing and its variants". I'm about a quarter thru it right now, but it seems to be all black and white pics but the colors are known by this forum anyway. If you go WWII, Testors has Model Master 1711 or 1911 (1911 is the spray) which is bang on. If you need anything about this tank, just ask. I think I bugged this forum for every scrap of info possible and I am happy to share.

So, I think you are well hooked. That is a very good thing- I've followed your Tiger post and you do fantastic work. I look forward to seeing your Pershing when you dig into it....I'll probably have to redo mine to incorporate changes you bring to light. It's not keeping up with the Joneses, it's just admiration!

Damn the more Tiger I's i see with the Ardennes camo sceme the more I want to re paint mine. then my Tam Panther and HL Tiger could theoretically be from the same unit.

RE: getting the bug

cheers for the comment ,the tiger isnt to much of a challenge, liked this tank for years so have a few books for reference, plus gleamed what i didnt know of this forum, but the pershing is a different matter ,so i will be bugging you and others ( pattoncommander) for a bit ;), when i get around to it i probably will go the ww2 way as im trying to keep a theme to tie them all together

No Frank, you are brainwashing the poor lad.[X(]:D

That's only acceptable if you're a grandfather and you have a granddaughter. It was written in the Magna Carta in 1215 and subsequently updated in "Stan's Guide to Grandparenting" in 2006.:D

RE: getting the bug

icemonkey,
I had not heard the phrase treadheaditis coined before, but I can definitely relate, and all I can say, young man is RUN!!!! Run very fast, run very far, and don't look back, this hobby is a bottomless pit of buying and building, and it will suck you in. It is like quick sand the more you fight it the deeper you get sucked in.

I have only been in this hobby for about 2 years and I have gone head long. In the first two months of discovering this hobby, I was out of pocket over $1200 US, had buried nearly 60 hours of building time on my first projects, me and my buddy had started a club, procured land, designed a battlefield, started designing and constructing buildings and battlefield elements, and launched a website. Then we started the recruiting process to try and get new members to join.

2 years has gone by, and we now belong to "several" clubs including those in neighboring states that we travel too on a regular basis for battles. Host battles on our on field at least 4-5 times a year, continue to develop the field and the club, we now have 20 something members plus close to 40 tanks, and I can't begin to calculate the time or money invested.

This is a steep and slippery slope to a very deep rabbit hole. But I wouldn't trade it for anything, so don't even try to run you won't find another hobby with a greater group of people, I know I've tried!

Just to give you an idea, I now have a Tamiya Tiger 1, Tamiya Panther G, Tamiya Sherman, WSN/Trumpeter T-34 Convereted to and SU-85 with Tamiya electronics, Bandia Pz IV, and HL Pz III. Oh yeah, and as an added bonus those around me including my wife and teenage daughters think I'm completely off my rocker! (LOL)

You have definitely caught the bug, and If all the rumours about up and coming releases of new models are anything to go by, you have caught it at just the right time. :D

Hang the kid's bed from the ceiling and build tank shelves above his dressor and changing table!

Matdragon 08-26-2008 03:21 AM

RE: getting the bug

good idea! or you could half the sive of his room by putting a wall though the middle - one side for the kid and one side for the tanks!! :D:D

more tanks ...... :D
