HL electronics installation

Hi Folks,

Being new to this hobby I have read all of your messages and now have square eyes, a huge electric bill and a very hot laptop.....

As a result I have come to the conclusion that as I am a profficient modeller, and c**p at even understanding the electronics (apart from the principles), I should stick to what I know and enjoy. I want a loud bang and loud engine. I have read all about El-thingy, it sounds great but I would prefer to have it installed and set up properly.

So I ask you guys if there is someone in UK who installs the upgraded electronics in HL tanks.

I guess I dont want to spend £600 plus pounds on a finished Tiger from Tamiya, I would sooner build a modified HL tank and spend some cash on the electronics.

Who do I talk to please....... each to his own fellas.... I know my limits.

Cheers.......Mike

Hi Mike and welcome to the collectors corner. You will soon realise that 1 or 2 simply does not suffice. I'm in your boat....being a modeller and enjoy RC tanks but don't do anything but the very bare essetials of anything electronic. I do the tank conversions and detailing and let Blitz do the hookups. Phil "Blitz" does all my electronic hookups and he does really fine work. I put out some $$ on the El Mod on my M-46, but that is a special tank and warranted the finacial outlay. Phil and his buddy Merle installed the El mod and it's a terrific setup. I know Phil gets work from all over and believe he has a couple from UK. You may want to contact him if you don't find someone local in the UK. ;)

Just wondering, if you install the el-mods into a HL tank. will the overall cost be lower than a tamiya tank, and if so how much will you save?

To my knowledge, only the El-mod's sound system is equivalant or better than the Tamy system, dun think there is any other system out there that has as good a sound as the other 2 mentioned.

El Mod has a really great sound. Go to You Tube and pull up" M-46 Patton in Korea." It's my tank with El Mod. Ran me about $500 with all the extra work.

Hi, thanks for your reply......it's good to know I am not the only one that isn't too clever with electronics.

Like you I am ok with the build and mod side of things and still want the electronics boost even if it does cost a few £ or $. From what I see on here, we Brits are
way behind you guys in tank upgrades, especialy the electronics, the upgrade electronics gear is quite expensive over here.

Two weeks ago I saw a Tamiya Tiger on ebay for £220 from a hoby shop in Hong Kong but £450 from here, and we dont see Tamiya spares here so it makes sence to go with HL and have more toys per £. A lot folks want to join in but cant afford the exras that are needed in order to "play" the game, isnt it annoying that anything to do with hobbys or fun is always overpriced....... thats my moan for the week.

Take care.........Mike

Hi, thanks for your reply. Can I ask what you got for your money please. This is a new hobby to me so I dont want to waste my money, I would rather
speak to guys like you who have actually done the mods.

What tank did you fit the gear in, I have a PZ3, PZ4 on order and a Tiger in pieces in the shed. I am used to working on sailing boats....they have lots of
room in them for radio gear....and dont make loud noises.

I have RX 18 board and leads ready for whatever tank I upgrade, if it is that cheap for cannon and engine sound, I will do them all over a couple of months.

cheers....Mike

i fitted mine in the tiger ,i got the booster / tls / and blaster2, with high grade speaker, with postage came to about £165, from blitz, going to fit the same setup in my pershing, just emailed blitz and he wont be getting more hl/elmod boosters in untill nov/dec, so i might go for the all out prop version for the pershing, have you looked at his site ,www.rctankwars.com, it explains all what each unit does on there, also you can download the manuals for fitment instructions

Icemonkey, did you get hit with any import charges when you ordered in your El-Mod?

Im always worried that ordering things from the states will get huge fees.

Regards,
Rik
