Need help identifying model brand
 

New to Tanks- r/c airplanes for 35 years. I bought a tank online and it does not work. Charged everything up and traced the power as far as the circuit board. I can not return the tank, dealer does not answer my emails. Is there a common problem, or is it possible to install "normal" r/c electronics. By the way, the only name on the box or instructions is BATTLEFRONT TANK EXPERT EDITION OVERWEIGHT SCALE 1/12. Any help would be appreciated.

check the radio crystals and make sure they match the reciever board

I'm afraid I can't help you on specific repairs, although there might be more info if you rummage around the forum a bit. This particular tank has been mentioned from time to time and as far as I remember has a very high problem rating.

It could indeed be possible to buy, for example, a relatively inexpensive smoke and sound Heng Long tank and swap out the electronics, but it might make more sense to put the Abrams in the closet for another day and devote you attention to your new Heng Long instead. :)

rcflyer227, try searching for wackywheels excellent conversion of this model. There should be no reason why you can't buy a HL electronics package , a set of gearboxes (check Wacky's build for which version) a set of Tiger drive sprockets, about three / four lengths of Tiger track, and away you go. Not a 100% perfect solution, but I'm sure you'd enjoy the challenge.

Thanks for the info. I think its going on the shelf for now. After looking around, I REALLY like the 1/6 scale tanks! Any ideas on brands, where to buy, etc. I don't want to get "burned" again

Sorry to hear your tank showed up in non-running condition.Even if it was running,at best their controls are not very good
and most make a lot of crunching sounds when you run them.They can be made into a pretty fair tank with a major up-grade using HL guts and controls.They are one of the few if not the only cheap 1/12 scale hulls you can find for the price to work with.
You didn't specify what type 1/6 scale model tank you was looking for,but you can't go wrong for the money with a 21st.century
M5 Stuart as a well made starter tank in that scale.I have four of them and there are quit a few other's here on the forum who have them.A very good source for info on them is (DAP a member here) who has them and worked with them.Watch the classifieds here on the forum,buy from a member,or they sell all the time on Ebay.When you buy one I guess you just have to trust that you will get one in working order from the seller,however I know this is hard to do especially if you have been burned in the past.Price would run around $120.00 to $170.00 for a good used one.Shipping can be in the 50 to 60 dollar bracket for transporting half way across the good old USA.-If they want much over that I would steer clear of them-

If you do go for a 1/6 Stuart, particularly on eBay, it's worth making sure that it's the RC version. There's a static model too, and some such sellers, through ignorance or otherwise, don't exactly go out of their way to make that fact clear. Here's a particularly neat Stuart (which apparently uses a turret from the static model).
