Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
Hey all maybe some one could point me in the right direction.
Im looking for the Leopard 2A5 1/16 tank prefer to buy in Canada or USA but the only place i have found is HobbyTron and they are not proving to be very helpfull when buying from outside of the USA. Thanks |
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
I don't know if you have an equivalent over there in Alberta but I use Menke's Parcel Service when I come across a stubborn seller. I have the item shipped to them, then drive down and across the border to their shop (which is literally in a town 1/4 mile from the border crossing). This service costs me an afternoon, a tank of gas, and $2 to Menke's for the first 50 lbs. I've used this for anything from my HL Pershing to a professional keyboard from Costco.com. If you are stuck, do a Google search for a parcel service near you.

RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
Well I Placed an order with HobbyTron for the HE Leopard 2A5 Tank and they cancelled my order without any notice [:'(]
I phoned this morning and they said it was cancelled because it is an Airsoft Tank and they dont ship these to Canada. Has Anyone else ordered from hobbytron to canada ? just seems a bit bizare as this is clearly not an airsoft tank.[:@] |
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
Why would they not ship it to Canada? We do not have any restrictions on Airsoft anyway....

RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
Well, don't know of any webshops overseas. But I live in Norway/Europe, and i bought one from Austria.
[link=http://shop.lindinger.at/product_info.php?cPath=1210_1230&products_id=70242]lindinger[/link] They sent it to me, with shipping the total was €102 (guess this is just under 160 CAD). And the shipping to Norway is the same as for shipping to Canada (at least according to their website). Beachboy |
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
When i phoned to enquire why the order had been cancelled she said they dont ship Airsoft to canada.
There was no telling her that this tank is not an airsoft tank so i guess im Kaput for a while until i can find some ware else to buy this tank. I just went and bought the HL M26 Gear boxes and 2 pair of Tracks as you need an extra 19 links per side so i could do the conversion:(. If any one else is wanting to do the track upgrade i have 2 more 20link pieces i would sell for cheap at least you wont have to buy 2 sets of tracks like i have done.just drop me a PM. |
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
That sucks - i feel your pain.
Over here in oz we have the non-airsoft version in the hobby stores. That could be another option. I bought mine cheap from a mate, and mine sounds like an airsoft gun when you fire the gun. However, i never got the 'bullet-shaped' BB's in the box. This really did not bother me though as i have other plans for it. |
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
To get a decent runner out of the HE Leo2 A5 you will need to upgrade the electronics as the original kit is single speed ( very fast ) forwards & backwards.
I ripped out the HE electronics and fitted a HL RX14 S&S board to give me 'proportional' control. Also, the idler wheels need some work and the suspension needs beefing up. ( all very simple to do ) I'm happy to help if/when you take delivery. Cheers John |
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
I was planning to use either a mix of HL radio gear and Elmod boards for the sound and proportional control and im probably going to rip out the projectile firing gun and replace with a Flash LED in the Barrel ready for the IR battle system.
Well this all sounds Great but i guess i better find my self a donor Tank first :D Thanks Mackem I may take you up on that as i have read your conversion you did. You are actually the one that inspired me to take this project on. Adrian |
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
When you find one let me know. I have been on the hunt for one as well. Seems you can find them in Europe, but not North America.

RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
Ok will do
|
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
Hope you'll find some in North America...
I like the Leopard 2A5 a lot. ORIGINAL: mackem Also, the idler wheels need some work and the suspension needs beefing up. ( all very simple to do ) I have done a conversion to HL also, but didn't put the electonic in the turret. But as i wrote in your thread, I liked it. My Leopard has US Tank metal gear, metal sprocket for M26 tracks, plastic tracks, and RX14. I also fitted 2 batterypacks up front inside, because it seemed to gain to much weight in the rear. But it runs poor (this is compared to my HL M26), so I have to take a closer look at the road wheels. The turret and cannon also needs some work beacuse the turret and cannon movements are very loud and noisy. Beachboy |
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
Yes the leopard Is my Favorite tank next to the Challenger 2 but i guess thats the British coming out ;);)
|
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
Hi beachboy,
Crossed threads here I think. I've already replied in your post before reading this one.:) The easiest way to modify the suspension is to fit shockers from a PzIII or any HL tank inside the lower hull to the suspension swing arm of the first and last road wheels. I'll be taking my leo apart this week to fit a laser target designator and will get pics of the suspension mod then. When you say your leo isn't running well, what exactly is the problem. Is it slow? Is it poor at climbing? Could you give more detail please. Cheers John |
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
Answered your Q in the other tread about my Leopard.
But for you guys looking for HE Leopard 2A5, check sites i europe. The might have good prices, and I guess the ship worldwide. Unless you find it in a site near your self. Beachboy |
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
Hey Guys,
I am starting to get interested in these tanks myself! I am looking into buying some for resale so I will keep you posted, I will sell to Canada, and around the World! The Blitz RCTankWars.com |
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
Hi Blitz,
That's great news. These tanks get a lot of stick on various forums and they DON'T deserve it. There only real problems are the running gear and electronics. Both of which are easily upgraded. I'm currently detailing a HE Abrams purcased from ebay for the princely sum of £13.00 GBP!!!! Cheers John |
RE: Help purchasing HE Leopard 2A5
I went to Cosford air museum and they had a leopard 1 there. and some others in the cold war gallery
