Elefant build

1 Attachment(s)
I am sure i will get laughed at for this but here are some shots of my Elefant build. Background: I am using Tanks and Trolls upper hull. The tracks will be Heng Long metal Panther tracks until impact or someone else brings out a correct set. The sprockets will be T1 with 4 spoke facades, the original plan was to begin modifying a Pantiger hull but it looks like it is easier to scratch build a plywood hull instead. 3:1 gear boxes being used. I want to make the suspension work like if not look like the real thing but i will have to see how it goes. I am using aluminum road tires with resin inserts to the road wheels. In the final form the wheels will be groved to make them look like pairs of wheels but the will only have one bearing per set. So all comments, critiques, suggestions, praise and laughter are welcomed.

No Laughter - go for it.

I've just spent a month trying to machine a decent StuG muzzle brake. I'm on my third attempt...

More pictures, more technique. Please. We WON'T laugh - it's all good inspiration.

Cheers
Jo

Yes but they do not have sprockets yet and the spacing between the sprocket teeth is different the other large tanks so they will not work with the T1 or Panther sprockets. I actually have a couple of links that were made for Elefant track so I am on this. Thanks I will keep watching Asiatam for further developments.

JOM, they will be at etoarmour soon, along with a lot of other P3, P4, and Stug goodies for HL. Figure about 2 weeks or so, 3 max.

Do you know if they will work with the heng long gearboxes?

I was off thread. I was talking to JOM about muzzle brakes. Sorry to cause confusion, should have PM'd him.

Hey kclank, what is the diameter of the aluminium rod you used for the roadwheels as I am thinking of machining some too?

Hi Kclank, you may want to hold on a while as Asiatam are releasing sprockets, idlers and roadwheels with proper suspension to go with their tracks http://mmodell.de/forum/index.php?pa...&threadID=1016

Cheers Ian

I wish I read German. I know someone who's building a 1/16 Elephant top. With these parts (tracks /sprockets ad road wheels he could actually finish it.

I se, I want. That is why I have been going so slow on this build. I wish aisatam's site was easier to use (for me anyway)

I have original Imai Elefants. Aside from knowing they have their own deficiencies if you have
questions about how Imai did a certain thing let me know and I'll do my best to answer.

Here is the image of mine from my website:

http://www.geocities.com/armorgroupw...ompd_eles3.jpg

Here's a subpage om my website with photos:

Good luck on your project.

If anyone here has experience with the Elefant tracks from Asiatam I'd appreciate hearing about it; Asiatam told me they are
fully compatible with Imai's original. Having only a few spare links keeps my models to short runs as many of the original links
are fragile

Jerry

Wow you've got three[>:]

I am thinking of doing up one but with all these hype about an Elephant launch, I think I will hold off for a bit.
