t-34 recovered!

T-34-76 recovered from the swamp.
The writing on the turret "СМЕЛЫЙ" means "brave/bold"

That's the 1943 "Hexagon" turret version. T34's are cool, I really need to get some more Tamiya electronics and get mine up and running.

Didn't they recover a Mammoth, intact, in Siberia??? :) Who are the folks being given flowers....especially that older gentleman with all the medals? What's the story there?

I just recently read the book "T-34 Medium Tank (1939-1943)" by Mikhail Baryantinskiy. Great book, up until then I never knew that the T-34 had so many variations to the basic design, and that you could identify where the vehicle was made by said variations.

Made me fall in love with the tank all over again.

If anyone is looking for a pretty good reference, pick up the book I just mentioned. It's a good read.

I'll have to remember that one when I go on my next book buying binge. I must have 5 or 6 of those smaller books like that and each one always has something you didn't have in the others!

Bob,

The tank was recovered a couple of days ago near Velikie Luki (Pskov region). It sank in the swamp 7 meters deep on Dec 12, 1942 during the Velikie Luki offensive operation. The crew managed to escape, only the gunner was wounded.

The t34 will become a monument, though it would be better to make it running. The parts preserved well.

Best regards,
Eugene

Eugene
Seems Pskov region is good at preserving the tanks and other equipment. He looks to be in good condition. Pity they will put him on a plinth. Good, however, that the crew was OK.
Best regards
Bob

Handling a tank full of ammo with the bulldozers could lead to an explosion. [X(]
