Help Programming Tamiya Tiger 1 DMD!
 

Hi,

I am new to RC tanki building and am at the stage on a Tamiya Tiger 1 build when I need to program the DMD. I have Acoms ap-401 radio gear.

The problem I'm having is that I cannot get the DMD unit toregister the throttle(steer,machine gun,turret are all ok).

I had a nightmare fitting the DMD connectors into the reciever and had to cut the connector tabs from the connectors to fit them into the reciever. When i did the throttle one some plastic came away exposing some of the metal where it connects. Could this be the cause and if it is would I need to get a new DMD unit!

I have tried resetting the dmd unit and re-doing the settings, swapping the channels with no success.

Also how do you remove the communication cable as it seems to be lodged in pretty tight!

Any help would beappreciated as I'm gutted I can't proceedwith the build!

swap the receiver connectors to see if the motors work at all. if not you may have hooked the motor power wires up incorrectly. purple and white for one motor, blue and orange for the other.. Don't get frustrated if you do find you have a problem with the DMD as Tamiya will repair them for a reasonable price. (contact Tamiya service through their website if needed). I have only connected the motors briefly last night.Then Pulling right/left sends it forwards /backwards and am not sure this is correct.

I have just tried programing the DMD again and I'm sure its getting a signal from each channel as after up/down left/right on both sticks i get the alternate flashing green lights. No throttle sound on the left stick still!

Hi

Have you got the correct cables from the DMD unit going to the relevant channels on the receiver as if not this can give odd results. They should be numbered with little sticky labels and plug into the corresponding sockets on the receiver. Another thing worth noting is that depending on the radio gear you have and the location from where the kit came from they do not always match up with the instructions. It depends whether the handset is a mode 1 or 2. I also am a UK tanker and the instructions state the right stick is for forward and reverse (up and down) and the left stick for steering (left and right) but my UK handset is right for throttle and steering. I got my Tigers from HK so the instructions are for their handsets. I do have one handset I use on my trucks and it is the other way round (as per the instructions). The only other thing I can think of is that you have connected the plugs the wrong way round, in other words in the correct slot but 180degrees round from where they should be. Can you take a pic and post it so we can see the receiver wired etc?

As for cutting off too much plastic Ihave also done this in the past but as long as the wires are not touching and the plug fits snuggly into the receiver with all sockets connecting with their relevant pins it should not matter too much.

Try your best to get hold of  (or borrow) a Futaba Attack 4VWD as Tamiya tanks seem to have been designed and configured with this radio gear. I tried programming my Tiger 1 with a different radio gear and had trouble making  the machine gun work. Tried switching channels and flipping trims in dozens of combinations to no avail and eventually settled for 4VWD .

no that is not correct. assuming you have <u>plugged in the receiver wires per the tamiya instructions</u> the sequence is as follows:
1. make sure your transmitter sticks and trims are neutral.
2.push the set button on the dmd unitl it flashes red/green.
3. Push the left stick all the way up then all the way down then return to neutral.
4. Push the left stick all the way right, then all the way left, then back to neutral.
5. repeat for the right stick always coming back to neutral.
5. push the set button on the dmd, it should green and your tank should start.

This is the basic setup. but be aware that you can change the pattern of the programming if you want, in case foward is backwards, etc. Of course you can allways reverse your transmitter switches and even change the plug arrangements, once you get it running the way you want.

To program your DMD Units they must absolutely be ouside of the hull, as the instructions clearly show. Do that and follow the setup instructions in your manual and all should work, sooner or later.

Reset the T-03 DMD Unit after each failure and eventually it will "TAKEthe Commands". And make sure all batteries are fully charged.

Also a reminder, not all manufacturers have their channels set up the same, meaning channel 1 of futabe might be a different channel on another manufacturer, one you found out which channel is connected to which stick movement (via a servo lying ard) then you can start putting in the channels to the right places.</p>

From your post anyway, I think you just have to swap the throttle and steering channels on your receiver and all should be good.</p>

I have now sucessfully programmed the DMD. If anyone else is using a UK Accoms AP401and having trouble you may want to do the following:


<u>DMD</u><u> REC</u>

4 4
2 3
3 1
1 2

This gives:

left stick up down - turret elevation
left stick right left- turret traverse
left stick down/up+ trim = machine gun /main gun
right stick up/down - forward/reverse
right stick left right - steer
