Tank Totes?
 

Greets,

What do y'all use to transport your tanks to and from the battle field? I've seen partial pictures of totes on a couple of sites, but could not get a good visual of the entire things. Usually when my Panther runs out of gas it's typically at the extreme end of the yard and I've got to pick the thing up and cradle it under my left arm with the xmitter in my right. Seems like there's a better and safer way to transport a tank without using both hands. I'm looking for a good design as I know there has to be some out there and I'd rather not re-invent the wheel. FWIW I have a complete cabinet shop including wood and metal latthes, so I can build about anything. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif Thank you!

For a single tank, a good carry bx is a tool box. Pad it with 1 inch thick foam rubber and there's anough room for your control box and a couple spare batteries. For more tanks...I'm used to packing up 30+ tanks, use the plastic storage boxes from Loews, etc. Drill a couple holes in the sides above the height of the tallest tank and insert wooden dowels. These will support a second box. Photo shows al my tanks packed up to go on display. You can get 4-5 tanks in each box, well padded.

The wood carrier were custom built by a club member Alan Haskell. He uses them just to transport to and from the battle, so the open design doesn't cause him any problems. No specific plans, he just builds them to fit the tank.

There are also a lot of plastic / metal tool boxes you can pick up. Sherman, being the smallest tank, are the easiest to fit. I can still fit a Tiger I in the same box (with the Tx). If you have a King Tiger, you will need something bigger. Shown is a toolbox from Black & Decker. It is black with orange hardware, and sold for about $10. This is how I store my tanks between battles.

The final set is a wood box that holds everything.

Walmart has $10.00 tool boxes that work just fine with a little padding. May need some modifying for a larger tank but at least they have a handle and storage bins on top for your battlefield needs.

I carry my radio gear in a separate case.

For my Sherman Iuse the plastic tool box option with foam padding. Put it in the back of the car and nothing gets damaged even with a dog and suit cases banging around !

Neat. I guess the Stuart is big enough to get there on its own. :)
