Just a little snip form TIGER!

Only the blackened muzzles of the 88mm cannons could betray them. Each round hole like the eye of something giant, dangerous and deadly looked out into the lifeless dawn. Hidden in the black, green and white clutter of twisted smashed and blackened forms of what had last week been an ancient lofting forest, three Tiger’s waited.
What was left of the battered pine woods took on detail as the frail sun managed to penetrate the mist of ice and fog. Beyond the tree line the land sloped down at a gentle arch, until it met a thin rutted road. The other side of this poor abused highway was blocked by a steep rise from which the road was cut. Atop and 30 meters behind the rise the remains of a destroyed Russian T-34 sat like an ugly twisted lump against the new snow. The gushing flames which had consumed it and the crew inside flickered out in the early hours. Now only wisps of putrid smoke rose from what had been the turret hatch.

The thing about blackened muzzle breaks kinda takes away from the realism. Even old black powder guns do not leave a whole lot of black residue. And smokeless gunpowder leaves little to no residue.

After a couple dozen rounds, mostly HE, cannister or smoke, there will be a dirty grey film in the muzzle brake, except for the baffles, which will be blasted clear..(unless the crew fails to clean up within a day or so.) A couple rounds of hyper shot will generally clear most of this, but the gun still needs solvent and the bore dragged through before pitting starts. Tanks w/o MB did not have this problem, especially long gun tubes with higher MV..

Black powder in MY tanks gun was a very filthy mess to clean, but no MB and no black muzzle.

It's a "grabber" allright....Just change "blackened" to "jutting" and you've got 'er!

I wondered about that. I know our M1A1s never had a lot of blackening from our rounds.
