I'm new here so ill start of by telling you a little about myself , I'm 48 and have spent 12 years in an
artillery unit on m109 howitzers so I'm not a tank man . my son got me this tank to full with he is more
into RC cars and trucks . but he got this tank for a good price a thought id like it but first i need to fix it
so being a member of 1130cc <span style="background: yellow none repeat scroll 0% 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;" class="J-JK9eJ-PJVNOc">V-ROD</span> forums i know a good forum is a good place to start. that brings me
here , i need to fix this thing so i can take it out and run it! i need to find all about this tank and find the
gear for it ,the drive gear is stripped off so i need help to find one and don't even know where to start looking
for it . i know nothing about this tank so any input would be helpful . here are some pics of what i got .

you will find spare parts on ebay from time to time. I have one as well which I am planning on upgrading but have not got around to it. I've been told that the first thing you want to do is reinforce the drive sprocket where the drive axel is inserted (either by a hose clamp or a brass/metal tube. Supposedly is has a tendency to break. I was thinking if its possible replace the drive motors (gear box with a 3:1 gear box from mato. As well. I was thinking of replacing the stock electronics with (2 RX 18 boards) The tank is currently powered by a 12V battery so I was hoping that 2 x 7.2V batteries would get this thing moving. I just have to finish up several other projects first

Question- does this tank come with metal or plastic gears?

Welcome aboard! You certainly came to the right place for help. Not many are 1:6 guys, but there are enough to get you up and running.

Looks like a 1:6 scale 21st Century Toys M5 Stuart. Unfortunately 21C went belly up and getting parts is going to be a task. Best bet is finding people here. Use the search function to get a start and someone with knowledge will come along and point you in the right direction. Man that sucker is big!

I would try to fix it first with J-B Weld or something similar. Just prepare the surfaces and give it a shot. I have seen parts for these on ebay from time to time but it could be a long wait. The gear looks like it's pot metal or white metal so brazing it back on is not an option.

Hello deleighty1,

What you have is a 1/6 scale Stuart tank.I have three of these tanks and there are a lot of other members here on this forum who have these tanks.The bad news is there are very few parts to be had for these tanks.You should start another post specificly asking for "need part for 1/6 stuart tank" and maybe a member here will have what you need.Looking on ebay for a non working parts tank will be your best chance to get a gear box assembly or from a member on the forums.

These are great tanks and there are still a lot of them around,but the problem is getting replacement stock parts for them.Hang in there and I think someone here may be able to help you out.

First of all welcome. I have always wanted one of these but haven't gotten around to buying one. I would be very interested in hearing how you make out on this endeavour though, so I encourage you to share your experience as it progresses. It will help others in the future.(me:D)

Try contacting this company here http://www.r-c-tanks.com/ I have bought from them before for both of my Stuarts and they ship fast. Although they do not have anything listed you need, you never know they may have spare parts or know of a place to go for your needs.

thank you all for the info looks like i did come to the right place.

'untill i find the part i need i thought id give a try at making one so i got jb weld putty and made a mold
then aftrt it got hard i mixed more putty and pressed it in and made the part , i still need to drill it out for the rod to go thought
.
the jb putty seems to get real hard but i dont know if it will work and for how long but maybe it will last till i find one.
