3W MONO AMPLIFIER
I was thinking about putting this little mono amplifier in my Panzer III.
Is it possible to use the RX18 Smoke Unitpower output, to feed the amp? thanks for the help - Meller |

It is rated for 3W at 15V voltage, meaning that at 7.4V it won't probably be louder than the stock heng long sound.
Anyway, if you want to give it a try, hook it up at the battery directly and feed it with the FX out wire from the volume regulator connector, trying to keep the wires as short as possible to reduce motor interference. Hail to the Vikings ;) |

Hi again
So Ibought the little amplifire, wow what a differens! The sound is now crystal clear, and twice as loud as before. I also bought a new speaker, a little bigger than the standard HLspeaker. I used the smoke units power output on the RX18. This is a great little upgrade, and a good way to get better and louder sound in your Heng Long tank! Here are some pictures. As you can see the amp fits perfectly in the HLspeaker slot. |

If you are cheap like me you can get the amp and speaker by butchering pc speakers. I have built a few with them and used the amp but the low watt speaker is pretty loud all by its self. Most pc speakers only run 4 of 5 watts without spending mutch you can get a pair of them on ebay and i have hade good luck with them. I almost forgot you must make a box to get the sound out of it i make mine with cardboard and hot glue.

I bought a 1 watt kit and it sounds loud but i am using it in my 1/24 tank...they do make 2watt kits for like 10 to 14 bucks .

Hi this is not in a HL 1/16 tank but i put a 1 watt amp in my 1/24 FOV tank it sounds much better now .. Before you could not here the sound when running now you can clearly here the clanking and high pitch sounds that where hardly noticable at all.

Nice, I ordered this 7watt amplifier.

But, if that 3 watt amplifier is doing you satisfaction, hopefully this will be great. It requires 12-16volts, but that's for moderate to max output. I'm currently researching for a diagram to increase the voltage output to the amp with transistors before the power input. Maybe I can get the 7.2v battery amplified to 10-12v without having to use a secondary battery for a stronger output. I'm no electronic engineer, but I know it can be done. |

Hi again @Borealis: No, I´m not getting any interference. But I am getting a higher sound from the "speed controller", you know that "Biiiib" sound, but only when I´m driving real slow. @Shadowwolf65: Sorry, the mic on my camera can´t seem to get the sound right. Did try to film it, but the sound was to loud and you couldn´t hear the difference between the motor running and the machine gun [:'(] I need to box the speaker in, there is not enough bas, at the moment. I tried to compar the HL with my VSTank (Tiger 1) - The VsTank was louder, but VSTank is way to loud if you ask me ;) What you get is: Louder, clearer sound (And you can use the RX18 SM output to feed the amp :) ) - Meller</p> |

Now when it's all hooked up and ready to go turn the amps volume up like 1/2 the way or so to start and then adjust the tanks volume so you hear the cleanest clearest sound coming out of the speaker.... You do not want to turn the tanks volume up very loud because a AMPS input signal should be low other wise if it's to loud the input signal the sound that comes out will be distorted and not clear... SO that said it's better to have the tanks volume low and use the amps volume to make it louder... again though you do not want to probably go past 3/4 vol on the amp or it will be distorted. Hope this helps. |

ORIGINAL: Meller I just use the standard HL volume knob :) If so you want the input signal low...like how it comes out of a home audio CD players out put jacks and you want to adjust the volume on the amp because if you have the amps volume set at full you will gain distortion and mybe a hum or loud hiss through the speaker. |

I´m not getting any hums or loud hisses from the speaker´, this it a great little setup - I like it alot. Would be nice, to get the speaker boxed in :D - Meller |

Hi I did not use it with a HL speaker I used it with a VS speaker that is the same size as a hen long speaker but sounds better and is louder at the same volume... I just put a VS speaker in my bull dog inside the Hen long speaker box and it sounds better than the stock Hen long set up.

Ohhh man...
The speaker came loose, and I think it came in contact with the Power + - on the amp... No more sound :( I noticed that the RX18 is getting very hot, around the SW and SM, when I plug in the amp - It wasn´t that hot before... If the amp is broken, could that make the RX18 unit hot aound SW and SM (Very hot)? Thanks for the help guys ;) - Meller P.s - Just ordered a new amp :D |

Hey Meller, I've done that before. Actually, just recently. I had to buy a new RX18 board to have sounds again.
Replacing the amp and replacing the big carbon coated 2-5 watt resistor didn't solve the issue. Had to remove the amp completely, because the amp gets so hot, that it began to warp the corner of the RX18 casing that the amp is directly under. I suspect it's one of the chip resistors adjacent to the amp. I found that it was becoming more trouble than it was worth to fix the board.....so I just sprung for a $22 dollar replacement. I believe that amp getting that hot is a safety issue, so I removed the amp completely from the board and intend on using the RX18 board with an aftermarket sound module since the board still works. |

Thanks for the help guys ;) - Meller P.s - Just ordered a new amp :D You need to hook the amps + & - to the power directly to the power lead on the on and off switch on the tank and the other wire from the amp directly to the wire from the battery plug wire. Also like i said before the amps with the volume control are best because you will have your HL amp turned down really low like you are hardly using it from the tanks board so it will stay cooler also.... then you turn up the amps volume and this way it will also sound clearer with less distortion...... this is coming from a Guy who always had high end home audio components. |
