SNFF 05-16

Someone else started SNFF , so I am just editing the title this week.

My intent with this thread was to have this kind of thing start happening. Nobody is going to hurt my feelings if they want to start SNFF. I would just like to suggest that you start a brand new post to keep each week current.

Well first Sunday in May , and I can`t say I have been too productive in Modeling this past month. My Electronics showed up and I have been playing. For $12 you can now have the Heng long tank have a cannon sound that rivals Elmod. I`ll post some pictures and a video later. Hopefully today.

But what about the rest of you guys. Any little thing you have been working on that you don`t have time to do a full blown thread, but want to share with a couple of pictues and a little text. That is the essence of SNFF. Not a modeling competition, just some sharing to help motivate others who may be stalled on their own. You know sometimes that act of someone esle doing something is enough to motivate you into action.

This week I started a 1/15 Bandai Hummel build. So far I have made quite a few changes.
Installed HL Stug Gear Boxes.
Installed PZIV output shaft cover's.
machined and installed output shaft bushings.
Installed an HL PZIII Drive Sprocket, Kit part not accurate for Hummel. Metal one ordered.
Machined A bushing to space out the drive sprocket to correct location.
Installed Impact Tracks, Had to shorten the guide horns to clear the Bandai road wheels.
Installed HL Electronics.
Fabricated the interior Gun brace.
Sleeved the Barrel.

Working on the Muffler and Exhaust pipes now. I have not seen this version done very much with the Bandai kit so I thought it would be a nice touch. So far it has been A really great build. Test running was really impresive.

My early M-50 is finished. Still debating whether to make a mantlet cover or not.
This M-50 is IDF in 1956, 82d Bn, 7th Brigade, Sinai region. Tanks in this region retained the OD colors.

Well All,
I spent my weekend tearing apart my brand new Panther ( burnt up ) and putting on the turret schuzern on my PZ IV. I must admit, the Tamiya turret schuzern ( Ordered from Karen at AAF, fit like a glove on the HL turret, thanks to the help of fellow contributors). I have includede pics of both. I also plugged some holes in the PZ IV left over from the non S and S model.

RE: SNFF 05-16

Well, I decided to hold off working on my tanks for the last couple of days. Been pretty undecided on color schemes for my PIII and KV (still trying to put fire under my tail to finish my Tiger 100.) So I figured I would start on my Waffen-SS Calvary figure that is to aid my tanks while at rest as a 1/16 big scale diorama. Also hoping this will inspire me to settle on a paint scheme for the PIII. <div>
</div><div>My initial thinking was this kit would be a breeze....it's just a figure, what's the problem right? I think Dragon models purposely made things so they wont fit. There's more putty in between the seams ( that were large gaps) then there is plastic. Also, this kit is very basic. Straps, clasps, hooks, and what not have to be scratch built. Still a long way to go, but it's a start! </div><div>

I Hear ya on those Dragon Kits Tony [:'(] Sometimes a real stinker.

I did not touch a tank this week however I did install a pond pump for my River and plumbed and wired that in. Now the Tank area has a running river. Waterfall behind the Bridge will finish the water feature off.

The WIP horse is most impressive, potentially a great kit finish in the works. Looking forward to seeing the project completed BiggTony. I haven't been doing much model stuff during the last couple of months, Adobe CS5 was introduced and "they" sent me to software seminars and classes. But this is what I have done:

1. Updated my Tamiya Jagdpanther and Pz4J to Futaba SkySport 2.4 radios.
2. Nick Aguilar's M-36B turret kit arrived Saturday and Iworked on it a little Sunday afternoon. Not sure what direction this project will take: kit bash a Tamato: the Mato Sherman + Tamiya Sherman, YHR, DAKstyle. Or just use it on my Sherman 105MM hull-deck for a simple plug and play swap out. Money and time will give me the answer. Looking at a recoil solution too.
3. Using custom transfers, named the WSNM-16 Half Track in honor of a 8 year old nephew, who will receive it in July for his birthday.
4. And transferred my Tamiya Panther G to the "South". Thank you Mattfur. Enjoy your new tank.

John

Thanks for the interest fellas! Figured no one would really care since this isn't avehiclewith tracks. My initial intention was to use this kit to assist my future fantasy tank. The PIII that I just purchased was going to be turned into aweaponof hellaccompaniedby undead Nazi's. Decided to leave that idea alone,.....for now.<div></div><div>Trev, great progress man. That's a playground is something to envy, even in an unfinished state!</div><div></div><div>John, (what's with the V2? what happened to V1? lol) Sweet PIV!!! I don't know if it will ever be finished. So much more to do and I have yet to run a tank on it. I need to start thinking about some Buildings. Might have to get the Horse Dude too.

LOL!! Well that kit so far is pretty satisfying. Learned alot about horse breeds in the process! lol Also something I didn't know about German WWII history. While WWII sparked the creation of many sorts of mechanized mobility and tank warfare, 80% of it was still horse drawn and both Russia and Germany had 6,000,000+ horses serviced combined. Many of the horses served as huge targets and an easy way to cripple a mobile unit. Found a site (can't find the link again) where the US confiscated many horses that were alive or barely holding on with 2nd and 3rd degree burns, including big bullet holes..... Sure this may be general knowledge for many of ya, but I'm learning as I go!

As for the playground. Take her easy! I couldn't imagine getting that done fairly quickly. That's more like a casual beer in one hand while blasting the stereo project. I know that's what I'll be doing once I get a new home, and get this one sold.

Thanks John for the info!!
Oh, that V2.....I thought it meant version 2, lol. I noticed the name change or new account....lol

Tony,
No Worries I move at the speed of Snail LOL. I get so tied up with Responsibilities, and concentrating on Models that I needed a SLOW project. Kinda like a good German Sippin Beer. Little did I know it would be such hard work in the begining. Now the hard work is done and I can really enjoy sittin back and fiddiling with it.
Now what is really hard is finding A Tank to have Blown up, Everytime I find one it gets added to the collection because I hate to Blow it up. That's the Addiction of the hobby I guess.

It was time to update the name, as to give fair warning. pcomm1 has no real meaning, except it was on my work place email account and I discovered several years ago that any communications Iused with pcomm1 on it would get by the IScorpoate spam filters and also not be reviewed, you know like blogging at rcu or bidding on ebay. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ey/msn/lol.gif<h3 class="r"><a onmousedown="returnrwt(this,'','','res','1','AFQjC NGTTbjjQJwTNbsVVQXun1EqK8TRVA','','0CCAQFjAA')" class="l" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Identifier">

YHR,
Not at all, as a matter of fact. I had just installed the battery and wanted to make sure things worked before taking it apart to break in the gears install the tracks etc. about 1-2 min's into testing blewwie and yes the stench is very bad. Once I broke it open and saw the R side sproket gear being bent and cracked, I figure that put to much a strain on the board and instant smoke screen. The living room still stinks.
On the bright side, Mato has already answered my first emails, I replied with the pics that I took and a slight explanation. will keep all informed.

Hey John,

BiggTony, Nice find and that is a good vendor resource. Either should work out OK, but I have been going direct to Nick for the last 3 or 4 years. John

RE: SNFF 05-16

I was starting road tests on my Elefant today and the Mato, 3:1, gear boxes started to make severe gear stripping noises. This thing is so heavy and, with wide tracks, have such a good grip it really puts a load on these cheap gear boxes. I first noticed the load on carpet, then went to soft dirt, but too late. It may jst be a shaft has slipped out of it's bushing, but it is still a pain. Where's my scotch? Back on the shelf with this project until i am in a better frame (read that as less destructive) of mind. I want to cry!!!

Ok I pulled myself together and pulled the box out and apart. the problem was a loosened grub (set) screw. the ratcheting noise was the flat on the shaft hitting the bottom of said screw. things looking up again.
