Tamiya Cement for Leopard 2A6

Good morning all,

I've taken the plunge and purchased the Tamiya Leopard 2A6 1/16. After reading as much as I could on this site, I won't start it until I have all the materials and upgrades I need. So far, I've ordered the metal support struts, metal idler adjuster, controller, additional ceramic grease, and the extra thin cement.

Tamiya calls for "Tamiya Instant Cement," and "Tamiya Synthetic Rubber Cement." I am unable to find these on Ebay or anywhere else. It looks like to me that the "rubber cement" indicated on the instructions is used for very limited purposes, mainly to cement the magnets to the plastic. And, I'm thinking that the "instant cement" is actually Super Glue.

So, I think that the Super Glue that I normally use for various purposes, including my PIII, will substitute for the "instant cement," and that I can use the same Super Glue to glue the magnets and other parts that call for the "rubber cement." I know not to use my standard Testor's glue.

So, can anybody tell me about the "instant cement" and "synthetic rubber cement?" Am I on the right track to use Super Glue instead of these?

Thanks much,

Howie

Use their thread locker as rubber cement works great.

Use either one of the Ambroid liquid cements, Ambroid Pro Weld for joining plastic parts together and "TRY" to avoid using super glue. Use super glue for adding metal parts to plastic like any turret details.

The Elmers Rubber Cement would be the other glue to use in place of the synthetic glue.

Hi, Yes, I did use super glue (CA) to attach the magnets to the plastic parts- NO problem.

CA glue is great for most assembly. However, I found metal to plastic can snap off with CA glue under extreme temperature expansion (like outside in the sun) between metal and plastic.

A 'flexible' glue is better for metal to plastic adhesion. Or better yet mechanical fastners whenever possible. I modified many of the metal attachments with micro screws.
