Restoring a Tamiya Tiger

I need some advise on restoring a 1/16 tamiya tiger I.

The tank is empty inside except the stock motors and gearboxes. The wheels is stock, and all the wheels are there. There is no motors or gears for the turret and barrel. There is some small parts missing all over the tank, but that should be easy to scratchbuild.

What I want is to get the tank back on it's tracks, driving around. So I need the speedcontrollers and the tracks. What kind of tracks and controllers can I buy, and where? What will fit and function well?

I have no manual for this tiger so I don't know how the mechanics should be like.

Are you sure it is a Tamiya ? Before you go crazy looking for parts. Hulls and turrets are very close between HL and Tamiya.

I can't find the Tamiya logo inside it or outside it. But all the fittings, screws, mounts and everything else I compared with, is just like what the tamiya manual (pdf-file) say. If there is a hidden sign somewhere I can look for, something different between HLand tamiya?

EDIT!

Found the proof. Inside the comanders hatch. It's a Tamiya!

Does the top hull come apart in 2 sections, what i mean does the top deck remove from the upper side of the hulls. The HL is all one peice.

Here are a couple of shots of a stripped down Tamiya Tiger.

- Torrson Bar suspension and alum tub

- the TOP of the turret should be removable.

Good luck with the project

Hi,
Try this guy on e-bay. He buys and breaks new sets to sell the parts.

http://shop.ebay.com/jr-rc/m.html?_n...rom=&_ipg=

Search for tiger, there are lots of spares but, I have yet to deal with him.
Good luck with the rebuild.

I have used Jr RC on a couple of occasions and have had great service, and i know of some others that use him as well.

My arsenal of DMD's and MFU's came from there as well as other tank parts! :D

That's good to know. At the risk of hijacking this thread, is there any other e-bay or web store that breaks up tamiya 1/16 kits for parts to sell?

RE: Restoring a Tamiya Tiger

Thanks for all the replies!

Does everybody use the standard Tamiya electronics? Has anyone tried to install other speedcontrollers, made their own turret mechanics or made non Tamiya sound/light effects?

I want to make my tiger driveable at first, and add more functions as time goes by. Before I install a lot of expensive electronics and mechanics, I want it to look right: custom paint, accessories, weathering, tracks and all the exterior finshings,.
