RE: Pershing Build..........Slow Roast

I don't know if I could bring my self to convert my first Pershing into a Super Pershing. I'm not afraid of doing the mod and I know I'm capable of it.....but the problem is retaining my interest to follow through with it.<div>
</div><div>Example. My Tiger, I wanted so bad to turn it into the initial production Tiger 100. Went as far as completed custom working side bins of brass, exhaust, working latches, hatches, blah, blah, blah......still not finished. The problem is me not getting bored, it's being a perfectionist. Being a perfectionist isn't a good thing in this particular hobby if you don't have enough knowledge about the subject matter your doing.</div><div>
</div><div>While you provided pictures of the Super Pershing, you also provided someone else's work/model. I've never been able to bring myself to use someone else's example as a be all, end all, unless it's proven for a fact that it's accurate with pictures. Just the way I've always been.</div><div>
</div><div>The freedom I have with sculpting creatures/humans is something that doesn't translate well into this hobby at all. I'm not really a rivet counter by heart...but in this hobby, if your going to depict real life subjects, you better damn well follow through with it as accurately as possible otherwise it's a fantastical tank!:D Anyway, I'll get off the shrinks couch....what's the fee doc? lol</div>

Tony, the one thing I learned in this hobby is perfection is not required because there are many times we cannot possibly find ALL of the information to make a tank perfectly correct historically. I find it easiest to gather as much info on a particular build as I can before starting it and then have at it. I'm sure that as pictures are posted guys will point out things here and there that they catch that need to be alteredor redone, but hell that's what made my Pershing build such a blast. I am sure yours will be stunning when it's finished....but watch that wiring...it's a pain in the butt.:D

Thanks Joe! I've spent the last day bundling wires the best way possible for concealment. That's what was making it so hard...I could have gone the easy way by tie wrapping and running along the wall, but I wanted to try and hide them as much as possible.lol It seems the key to wiring the Pershing the best way possible is to omit some of the steps and use that plate to your advantage before screwing it down and wrap, twist. adhere them to the underside of the plate. Still not totally happy but it will have to do. This is the final layout number 12! lol

Glad to see you posting again Joe, you've definitely been missed on the forums!

And I'll try not to be such aperfectionist, but no promises! lol

To all, sorry the build is coming along slowly, but I'm in the process of making my own quick change plate. After finally realizing that there was no exaggeration that more than half the tank would have to bedisassembledto remove the gearbox for future errors....and then dealing with this wiring, I don't want to go through this again if I don't have to,.... unless I bought another Pershing. lol

Thanks Chris!<div></div><div>I should be moving along now! I finally figured out how to make a quick change plate or simply how to alter the plastic/metal tub to remove the gearbox with out taking the whole thing apart......I can't believe how simple it is. Flippin common sense!!!.......well, only after 5 hours of racking my brain over it! lol</div>

Yeah Tony, your doing a heck of a job. My Panther is a mess inside LOL. There just seems to be no real way to keep all the wiring neat inside her. I open it often because I never charge batteries in the hull so things are always getting moved around for maintenance and stuff. Oh and Hey Joe good too see you man. I was wondering where you got too. i called ya a couple of times. Give me a shout when you can.

That looks awesome! I mean, wow....I've seen quite a few Pershing wiring and I have to say, your's looks the cleanest of them all! Infact it's the best one I've seen, which really isn't saying awhole lot becaue Ihaven't seen a bunch of them, but compared to that guys in the link, (commander i think) yhours is cleaner than that! anyways, your really makeing me want a pershing now. When or if you make that changing plate, please do share how to make it if it's that easy. I wouldn't mine saving 60 dollars for it if i do spring for a Tamiya.! keep up the awespme work!!

RE: Pershing Build..........Slow Roast

Thanks Greg! I haven't fully screwed everything down, but if you want I can take a quick photo of the underside. If you ever felt froggy, you could always make that leap and clean her up! lol Lot easier to mimic something, than have to come up with it on your own, I'll tell you that much! lol<div>I agree, charging a battery in the tank isn't the best decision and I understand not everyone has ever had an issue. But, then again I'm not everyone. I have a knack for trouble finding me! lol</div><div></div><div>Tankfantatic, thank you very much for the kind words. I don't know if my wiring is that impressive and Bob (thecommander and servoblast) has some really good wiring skills. I don't mind showing how to make the quick change mod, it's actually really easy to do with roughly 2-3 dollars for parts....well, that's one way to do it...but I like to go snazzy so mine won't be a 2-3 dollar mod. lol Anyway, I'll show both....</div>

Alrighty Tankfanatic,

Should you finally decide to get a Pershing and a KT with in a week or so apart from each other and need to save some loot. This is what you do......

Parts needed:
$0.27 x (6) M4 x 20 mm screws (I went with the bolt head so I can use that snazzy tool Tamiya provides with the kit.)
$0.17 x (6) 6mm flat washers <span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0); ">or</span> flat lock washers
$0.24 x (6) 1/2 inch Nylon spacer ( you can actually use anything thats 1/2 inch, whether wood strips, metal, stone, etc that will fit in the gap. It's just very helpful to have a guide for the screws.)
$4.08 excluding tax compliments of ACE hardware

Epoxy or CA to glue the nylon spacers a above the holes.
Thread lock for the screws.

(I did create a 1/2 inch plate, but I found that it added a substantial amount of weight to an already rear heavy tank. Went with the alternative and cheapest method. )

Follow the directions in the pictures (when I stated to glue nylon spacers to hull, glue it to the plastic hull, not the metal tub as shown in the diagram....I'm sure this is understood, but just in case.) Hope this helps you and anyone else who gets a Pershing in the future or doesn't have a quick change ability in their Tamiya Pershing.

All that needs to be done in the future is to remove the six screws or bolts and totally remove one of the final drive housings and part of the other. Really common sense stuff, like this solution.

edit: Forgot I took pictures of the nylon spacers being glued to the hull. Also, as mentioned in the photo, 2 spacers need to have a slight angle on the bottom before it can be glued down. Once you have all the parts needed...this whole thing takes 3 minutes tops. If you already have a Pershing built......it takes forever.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif

Nice quick change mod BigT!  I'm going to order the Pershin next week. Just gotta make sure the fundz are in order:D Anyway thanks for the detailed explanation of the mod, you are going to save me 60 buckaroos! Keep the pictures coming man!

RE: Pershing Build..........Slow Roast

Thanks Tankfanatic, and I sure will. I probably won't continue using this thread though.<div>I like to use the forum to communicate with people and respond to others, thus creating a bunch of in-between posts during my progress, making it difficult for others who don't care to read the in-betweens and just want to see pictures. So, I may create another thread....basically a redo to make this more of a build thread than a chat room. </div><div>
</div><div>Anyway, thank you and you're welcome!</div><div>

RE: Pershing Build..........Slow Roast

The Panther does not have a mechanism deck that travels the entire length of the hull. That is one reason it is hard too hide all the wires. It is pretty drn tight in there also.

RE: Pershing Build..........Slow Roast

I probably won't experience the Panther G build anytime soon. I've set a chart for Tamiya tanks to own and the next on the list is the Sherman, then KV-2, Jagdpanther, Panther G, etc...

By the way.....O M G!!! I just finally put the tracks on the tank and gave her a spin. What a big difference in response and functionality. The movement of the tracks and transition of speed is like a cutting through butter with a razor. I didn't think I'd notice that big a difference between my HL's and my Pershing....really insane.

Tony, I just read over this thread and that quick-change mod is awesome brother! One day I will find the time to do things like that...

Hey thanks Joe, <div>
</div><div>Don't worry, things will straighten out for ya and you'll be back in the commanders seat in no time! </div><div>
</div><div>
</div><div>To all, this will be the last time I post in this thread. I'll create a new one with all the photos sorted and less "chatting" in between, at least in the beginning. lol </div><div>
</div><div>Thanks to all who have been following the build up to this point. I'll have more progress photo's here shortly to share. Right now, just having a blast driving the lower half. Actually had quite the scare during play time. The tank kept shutting off and the engine would restart when I went up obstacles or high revved. Thought the electronics or my wiring was screwed up. Nope, just a low battery. Very advanced electronics I must say.....now to figure out why the heck my Pershing makes a dead stop when done reversing as if I put on the brakes, unlike forward motion that kind of slows to a halt.</div><div>
