Where To Find Embossed Casting Numbers?

Hey all,

Anyone know where I could find embossed lettering and numbers that resemble cast serial numbers? I think I've seen somedecalsthat are raised, but I'm not sure if they are raised enough to resemble casted letters/numbers. Just wondering if theyexist, before I make aninvestmentin letter punches.

Thanks fellas!

One thing you can do is to use two part silicone putty. Mix it together and then push it over some casting numbers that already exist on your model. Let it set up, and then you will have a negative mold. Resin can then be used to cast the numbers in the silicone mold. You can then rearrange them to your liking to give different numbers

Thanks Dan,

That was an option I was considering but it looks like the scale of the numbers are a little off, definitelynot thick enough. This is what I was considering using that same method with 2mm punches, the perfect size and they are thick lettering/numbers. Just hoping there were other options.

Tankzone has photo-etch casting letters and numbers in 1.5mm and 2.5mm.

The best easiest and by far the cheapest way of getting alphabet letters is to use the frets from your kits these have numbers and letters a plenty all you need to do is cut them from the fret then glue them to whatever you desire

Tony the best type are the ones at modelrailway stores and go under the name of Slater the 1mm and the 1.5mm are no longer being made but for most work on the 16thscale tanks 2mm this is ideal...as shown on my firefly turret top......and hatch surround....

Thanks a lot guys for the ideas! <div>
</div><div>Fleshpeddler....now you show up!!! After I purchased those 2mm letter punches!!! 2mm is exactly what I'm looking for and the ones you have for example are what casted digits should look like! The ones stamped on the tamiya look too perfect and thin. </div><div>
</div><div>Do you have any sites in general that would have it? I've just looked at modeltrainstuff and a couple others and none show. </div>

The casting numbers may not be as pronounced as you think. Pictures courtesy toadmantankpictures.

Yeah, your right. There are some variables which depends on the success of the cast and manufacturer. Some of my Pershing refference photos show really thick casting numbers. I'm somewhat fine with some of the casting numbers on the turret, but the ones missing on top of the blower and a couple other areas are what I would like to add. Also, wouldn't hurt to have a way to re-add any that are on the molding once I begin the texture process, and I'd rather they be improved.:D.<div>

you can use stamps , like you do on a envelope to stamp your addres on, from mister minute you can buy little sets with the whole alfabet, its rubber so easy to cut thru. There are several sizes etc maybe thats easier

lol! No,no, no! No shelf queen, lol. Everything that I intend to modify will be done right. If I happen to use photo etch parts, it won't be super glued, that's for sure. The paint job will surely be appropriated for use and endurance. There will have to be deliberate hard abuse to scratch this sucker! lol I just want my tank to look beautifully done and accurate to the best of my ability, lol.
