Default Kyosho Inferno Neo st vs what?

Looking at getting back into nitro trucks (took a two year break... worked on helis and airplanes) and i want to get a truggy or a buggy. I havent decided yet. If i had the money, i would get the losi 8ight-t because it comes with almost everything i need to race it. But at $800 its a little steep right now. The truggy i looked at was the kyosho inferno neo st. What are your opinions about the truck?

A few things i noticed..

-Plastic shocks - I want aluminum
-Lack of aftermarket bodies - I want to paint my own, i am unsure if current inferno st-rr bodies fit. If they do.. Great!!
-20mm shorter wheelbase than the losi. This i see as a disadvantage for track use. And to me.. the longer wheelbase looks nicer. But Function>Form!
-Pull start - I would like to bump start it. UNLESS, the pull start isnt as cheesy as the traxxas ones i have worked with [:@]
-New Radio - Seems nice... Has anyone ever used it??

Thats all for now.. Im just trying to do my research! By the way, I plan to use this like half on a track and half not

If you really want to race, then a used Losi would be better IMO..

Id say the kyosho is a good truck, especially for bashing. It seems like the engine it comes with is pretty strong. I do have some things i dont like about kyosho though. They have some race winning designs, but it seems like they discontinue things fairly often and i dont like some of their "traits". Things like phillips screws everywhere, little dinky steering linkages (from servo to bellcrank), non standard engine mount (think they finally did away with this though), and the fact that parts support seems to not be real good except for online(which isnt really an issue these days). Im also not a fan of the plastic shocks, even though they probably work fine.

I will say from what i have seen of the inferno neo st, I like it. I like the body too.

If you are just club racing and bashing and not real serious, the inferno neo st will probably do great since its based on a pretty proven design. If you are wanting to be pretty serious about it, you may want to look into a good used truggy. If you keep your eye out in the rctech classifieds, you can find a good used rc8t, 8ight-t, Hot Bodies D8T or something similar for $100-150. However, you will still end up with $450 for the used one with more race grade parts.

Basically either option will work fine. You just have to decide if you want to get a RTR truck new in the box on your doorstep, or if you want to buy a more race oriented roller and piece it together.

the Factory Kyosho engines are junk..had one of these here last year and the engine was pathetic.......the engine mount was actually cast as part of the engine block...probably the worst quality nitro mill I have seen...untuneable too...no matter what the thing would not run correctly....

Yeah if i were to race it, it would just be locally at my hobby shop which isnt to big. Im not a serious race.. yet. I also agree the plastic shocks would probably work fine, but its always nice to have aluminum Ill look into the engine mount deal. And i actually was looking through that thread! I think there was a post right before i made this that was also about something similar to what i am asking. Ill keep looking around and let you know what i discover!

The Inferno Neo ST's KE25 engine doesent have integrated motor mounts like kyosho used to have. I hated that design too. Now they have standard mounts. Im wondering if kyosho has revised their engines some because the video's i have seen of the KE25 look pretty impressive for a RTR engine.

The Neo ST does use standard mounts though, so no issues swapping in other engines there[8D]

Very interested in theKyosho Inferno Neo stas well. Infact I have almost bought it several times but keep draggin my feet. I am wondering if any of you guys that posted on here could compare it to theOFNA Nexx 8t? Another newish rtr truggy in the same price range. As a guy who is never going to race, just mess around on dirt roads & such what would be a better buy, the ofna or the kyosho?

Id say the Ofna is going to be the better buy most likely. Dont know what the pricing is like on it though. Ofna is good with parts support and building durable vehicles in general.

that doesn't look bad....but unfortunately that video doesn't convince me...as any engine can good for 33 seconds before it becomes heat soaked....how it runs after it becomes heat soaked can be a entirely different story......in the video that truck is smoking like crazy so its likely still cool........But I will say it does look decent in the video...if it could sustain that tune and performance from beginning to end then I would say its the best Kyosho engine I have seen....The one we had here was nothing less than wretched....

Thats all I was getting at, its the best kyosho engine i have seen and it does look good in the video. How it sustains the tune, i dont know. There are a couple other longer video's of them where they seem to run good the whole time though.

I do wonder if kyosho did a little work in the engine department. Just going to a standard engine mount was worth a lot....
