Default gearing

im converting my savage to a truggy, but i can only find a 52 tooth spur. could i run it with a 13 tooth clutch bell,or would that be too much gearing...stock tires, surefire engine.

Technically the Savage can not be converted into a truggy. It will always be a monster truck. Next, if you gear too low with that truck you will wheelie, especially since you are running a Sure Fire .32 in it. Try gearing 16/49 or something along those lines until you see very smooth acceleration but not too quick that you spin tires/wheelie. You are going to have some trial and error ahead with you with differential oil, but you should probably run 7k up front and 5k or 3k in rear. You are going to have A LOT of power going to your wheels and the abcence of a center differential is going to make that harder to control.

lax even tho it will NEVER be a truggy (since its not a buggy to start with) there IS a conversion for the savage to make it like a truggy. its made by poor boy rc and it makes it a flat chassis truggy like vehical

You can try to change your savy to a truggy but won`t be able to race in a truggy class . Truggy class - the truck has to have a center diff , not a tranny .

Then technically its not a Savage... its just a conglomeration of random parts to make a monster truck that was originally made to bash into a blob that can attempt to race.

I second that... Why would you need 8 shocks and gigantic bulkheads on a truggy anyway?

I dont know if we are thinking of the same thing, but I saw a guy who put a Mad Force 3 speed into his Savage... haha, which was pretty cool.

What our friend is doing represents the history of the truggy. JT Racing Tmaxx conversions dominated the early UMT Classes since 2002. 8 shocks can be made to work very effectively, especially on bumpy tracks and a few of the new truggies retain the ability to add 4 more shocks, again a reflection of the MT roots.

If your local club still races UMT or Outlaws as a class, you should be able to race it. Local club racing is often more flexible.

Good luck with your conversion
