Kyosho ST-R or Mugen MBX5T
I'ev been doing my fair amount of research, but i'm having a hard time deciding between the "Kyosho ST-R " and the " Mugen MBX5T". Can you guys help please [sm=wink_smile.gif]
Also are "Ninja" engines any good ???. Because i was thinking of getting either the "Ninja MR21 BO1" or the "RB CONCEPT C6".
Thanks

RE: Kyosho ST-R or Mugen MBX5T
The ninja engine is simply a *** kicker for a .21 engine. Im running one in my hot bodies pro, and its a tank, but the 21 powers it over the triples without effort.
As far as the mugen vs kyosho, I would go with mugen. Kyosho parts are very pricey. A bell, shoes and springs on the kyosho is about 80 bucks vs 60 for the mugen. I watched Ryan Lutz run in Joliet and he had the field lapped in his Kyosho, but with 10 min left in the A main, blew a front or rear diff, he finished 3rd.
Then a few weeks later, at my local track, another Kyosho with rear diff troubles. They just seem to have troubles with blowing diffs. Perhaps they werent shimmed right and that was the cause, but both diffs the I seen blow out were on pro drivers, kyosho sponsored at that.
My choice would be the mugen with the ninja .21 or the .28, Im waiting for it to come out, word has it, some time in march. The ninja .21 screams and holds its own against any 300 dollar plus engine. Mines on gallon 3 without any troubles, and now race season is over so Im going to store it for the winter and see how it goes again in the spring.

i second the mugen act and runnin the ninga 21 in that truck is a great combo with the ninga pipe the mugen is a pretty light truck and a 21 will pull it around without a sweat. i ran a k truck for 2 months and had diff issues and servo saver issues great handeling rig but not very dependable.

I have had zero problems with the diffs on the ST-R...you just need to make sure they are tight. I would suggest the OS Vspec...it's the best racing engine on the market.

RE: Kyosho ST-R or Mugen MBX5T
i agree about the STR and the Vspec, although i havent seen a Vspec running past 6 gallons as of yet.
there a re a TON of .21's that will tug that STR and MBX5T around any track.
i say its all about how much you want to spend, then work from there. a Vspec will be a pricey engine considering, the Ninja is ok, but it seems to lack some of the bottom end you need with truggy's, you have to work with that motor to get it where you want.
Novarossi P5X is a nice affordable dependable motor, i got over 10 gallons on mine, Radical 621P is a really nice motor for the money, RB C6 is another very nice .21, killer low end on that engine, Werks Racing B7, screamer for sure, killer top end on that motor, the Radical 621T has some nice low end punch, suited more for medium sized tracks, not like its counterpart the 621P which is made for larger tracks.
if money is an issue, i would look into the Novarossi T21BF 3 port motor, they primarily run around the 179 dollar range, another cost effective .21 motor is the O.S. .21 VG, both motors have nice low end punch, but may not have as much top end as like the Vspec or the P5X or the Radical, but for the money you cant beat it.
another motor thats really nice is the Novarossi Plus 21-5, like the Vspec, its suggested to change the bearings for some Ceramic bearings, either Boca or TKO will do.
Both kits are very nice kits, every kit has its downfalls, but you cannot ignore the fact that the new STR and the new MBX5T are winning accross the USA with ease. but i will add if you want to save some money, the Mugen will be the better choice, but if you have the funds, STR all the way!

MBX5t
ST-R
New Hyper 8 [not the RTR]
New Losi 8ight truggy

RE: Kyosho ST-R or Mugen MBX5T
If I didn't have the ST-R and had to choose from MBX5T and ST-R I would probably go with MBX5T due to the design issues with the ST-R.
Apart from this I believe there is litle difference between the 2 on the track. In the UK the ST-R is around £100 cheaper so you could spend that money on hop ups to stiffen the chassis or even on a new chassis (BCE).
As for the engines I have both, The C6BB is the better engine of the 2. Lovely smooth power in abundence bottom and top end. Also very economical too.

Hi,
"IMO", Mugen offers a better quality and if you can spend a bit more, get the PROSPEC version.
No doubt about Ninja engine performance. Heard too much good things, I am still using my PLUS 21-5T. Ninja B-01 has a new version called I guess B-01A, with red silicone in the crankshaft.
Regards
Joaquim
